Obama laying the ground work for a very effective campaign against McCain
Edited on Thu May-29-08 01:21 PM by ericgtr
With no recent mention of Hillary from either the Obama or McCain camps, the battle has begun and Obama is mounting a very clear and calculating campaign. See here for some of the details http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/29/obama.election/index.html

Some of the highlights are:
  • Getting people to register to vote
  • Successfully anchoring McCain to Bush like a ball and chain
  • Hammering McCain on both economic and foreign policy
  • He's already hired a huge staff of people dedicated to the GE only
  • Formulated an instant response anti attack team to hit right back against the GOP and 527's

This is exciting stuff and his staff isn't taking anything for granted. And with Hillary out of the picture he is showing us the side of him that doesn't pull any punches. We can look forward to him handing McCain his ass a lot over the next few months, can't wait.

    3. Smart, organized, efficient and deadly.
McCain's gonna wish he never got the nomination before this is over.

    4. I think by August, the GOP will be wishing they didn't nominate him.

I'm serious, in August, Obama will lead McCain by 10+ points and maybe even more after his historic speech at the Democratic Primary.

McCain will see a bump after the GOP convention, but it'll wither away once October rolls around and Obama crushes him in the debates.

I see Obama winning the national popular vote 54-42-4 and over 300 electoral votes.

    5. Like him or not, he's run a fantastic campaign.
And I've no doubt he'll continue to do so.

    6. I'm interested in seeing how he handles campaign next week
Presumably, he'll be the presumptive nominee by then (I could be wrong, but I think even the Clinton campaign will acknowledge this fact by next week), and I think he'll use his gift for speaking to reach out to those who have supported Hillary Clinton. I spoke with an uncommitted superdelegate recently who has not committed yet due to respect for Clinton supporters; this person indicated to me that there were many in the party who were, from the very start, and who still remain passionately committed to Hillary Clinton and that he/she respects that position and does not want to commit to a candidate until it is appropriate to do so--accordingly, I think it's very important that Barack Obama does whatever he can to bridge that divide and gain the support of these Clinton supporters. I'm not talking about offering her the VP spot, which I think would be mistake, but rather reaching out and making the case to these voters as to why they should support him in the GE.
