Losing general election after convention floor fight? (link needed)
I have heard mentioned here many times that historically, no candidate from either party has ever gone on to win the general election after a convention floor fight. I have tried Google but can't find any hard facts on this. Can anyone provide a link?

(I'm not saying I don't believe it, but I would like a link for personal reference and to back up the claim when talking with others.)

Thanks You.

2. Well, that works out nicely for her planned run in 2012, doesn't it?
And I think that's the real point of this protracted primary process.

3. Check Reagan-Ford in 1976
I believe they went to convention but neither won, although Reagan, who was the loser, went on to gain the presidency the following election. Maybe Clinton wants to follow in his footsteps and take it in 2012!

4. Was that the only time?
I remember a few people mentioning Kennedy bringing it to the convention. (I must apologize; being only 20 this is all before my time.)

5. Reagan - 1976; Kennedy 1980
I'm not sure if 84 and 88 went to the floor (Hart and Jackson).

Got the nomination on the third or fourth vote about 800 years ago and won the GE (barely).
