Irony alert! Clinton touts her fiscal responsibility to South Dakota Voters
Edited on Thu May-29-08 07:19 PM by Ichingcarpenter
Clinton touts her fiscal ability
Fri, 30 May 2008 03:36:12

US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has called on the voters in South Dakota to vote for her because of her economic experience.

"If you will vote for me next Tuesday, you are voting for the most fiscally responsible candidate in this race on either side of the aisle," Clinton said on Thursday.

The Democratic hopeful was referring to her practice of offering explanations on how she will pay for all of the plans she has laid out, including her very expensive universal health care plan.

"We need a president who will put us back on the path to fiscal responsibility," she said.

"I am the only candidate running who has told you specifically how I will pay for everything I propose because I want you to hold me accountable," Clinton added.

4. CBS news has the story now
HURON, S.D. -- On her last day of campaigning in South Dakota, Hillary Clinton told a group of supporters huddled inside a ballroom that South Dakotans should pick her on Tuesday because of her economic experience. “If you will vote for me next Tuesday, you are voting for the most fiscally responsible candidate in this race on either side of the aisle,” Clinton said, a blatant jab at both Barack Obama and John McCain. Clinton was referring to her practice of offering explanations on how she will pay for all of the programs she has laid out, including her very expensive universal health care plan.

“We need a president who will put us back on the path to fiscal responsibility,” she said. “I am the only candidate running who has told you specifically how I will pay for everything I propose because I want you to hold me accountable.”

There are a couple of problems with this claim, though. First, her campaign is approximately $20 million in debt, even after she loaned over $11 million of her own money to the cause. Several vendors and suppliers have come forward to say they are owed money by the campaign, and her former chief strategist, Mark Penn, is owed $5 million for his services before he parted ways with Clinton.

12. She has more Earmarks than McCain and Obama combined

Second, Clinton received more than five times the number of earmarks
than any other senator, according Taxpayers for Common Sense.

Their report also found that Clinton is responsible for receiving over $2 billion
in earmarks from 2002 to 2006, which is more than either Barack Obama or John McCain.

20. It's just a shame she didn't "earmark" ...
... some money to pay the small business vendors who she's stiffed.

But, hey, she's struggling to make ends meet with her lousy household income of $109,000,000 over the past few years. That's why the Clintons are living on Caviar Helper these days, and have switched from butter to margarine.

"Now faith is the assurance that what we hope for will come about and the certainty that what we cannot see exists." and wee have seen the evidence of Senator Clinton's fiscal responsibility. To be fair we have seen Senator Obama's fiscal responsibility and every indicator shows that he is far more fiscal responsible than Senator Clinton.

prosperity of the 1990's?

You can argue, correctly, that her husband's policies help but I don't believe the First Lady was an economics adviser during those years.

We have concrete evidence of how well the Senator form New York handles the finances put in her charge versus how the Senator form Illinois handles finances put in his charge.

trust somebody new, or go with the one who failed us in so many ways?

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/hfojvt/71

Fiscal responsibility - the same mantra that Reagan used. Hillary touts her work on SCHIP now, but back then President Bill Clinton made phone calls to kill SCHIP. Why? Because it was too expensive, it would threaten the balanced budget. Yet at almost the same time he was proposing tax cuts that were tilted towards the rich. See, we cannot afford SCHIP, health care for children, but we can afford big cuts in the estate tax and in the capital gains tax.

47. Ha, and she was speaking in my home town.
Not that I know hardly anybody who lives there any more.

Nothing in the local paper about it, but they do mention that Senator Dodd was there, campaigning for Obama

http://www.plainsman.com/V2_news_articles.php?heading=0&story_id=3935&page=72

"Democrats will come together after the final primaries and as the summer unfolds because they realize how much is at stake, Dodd said.

“Hillary Clinton will be standing next to Barack Obama campaigning her heart out,” he said.

Dodd, a 27-year member of the Senate, said he is “not against anybody. I happen to like Hillary Clinton a great deal.”

But just as Bill Clinton was the right choice for the country in 1992, Obama is the right one this year, Dodd said.

No matter whether they live in Connecticut or South Dakota, Americans want the same things, he said.

“And we deserve political leadership that reflects that common interest and that common sense of purpose, and we haven’t had it,” he said."

First of all Washington is north of SD, so why would a Washingtonian say "up there in South Dakota"?

Second, there must be some internet since my hometown newspaper has a website

Third, SD is expected to go for Obama, so I don't see the need for the hostility.
