Who is this Stephen Gardner swiftboat person that my FIL keeps mentioning?
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 02:22 PM by Melodybe
My father in law is republician and keeps bringing up this Stephens person, Marvin (the f-i-l) says that he was a gunner on Kerry's ship. So I know he is lying but who is he and what is his story?

1. Stephen Gardner
was on PCF 44. Read "Tour of Duty" if you are interested in Kerry's Swift Boat service.

2. Who is he? Was he Kerry's gunner or just some jerk that was on the boat
after Kerry left? I thought that all of the men that Kerry served with were at the DNC.

4. He's Stephen Gardner
And of the 11 people who have actually served on Kerry's Swift Boat, he's the only one of the 10 survivors that have come out against Kerry. The other 9 survivors all have not only endorsed Kerry, but have publically said that Gardner isn't telling the truth, and appearently has a grudge againg Kerry dating back to Vietnam.

When you have 9 who were there saying the same thing, and 1 person who was also there saying the exact opposite, well, you do the math.

5. He was on Kerry's boat for a short time
but he was not with Kerry during any of the disputed actions pertaining to purple hearts or bronze or silver star. He is the only member of Kerry's crews not supporting him.

He is not featured in the ad but has spoken out against Kerry.

7. If anyone has a link to Doug Brinkley's article from May, 2004
I'm not sure which publication, but he tells of not being able to get in touch with Gardner while he was writing Tour of Duty but did get to talk to him later. What an ass this Gardner. Gardner was listening to Rush while driving his car and bla bla bla . . .

I don't have time now to find it but if someone can and put the link here I would also like to have it.

10. He's pretty whacked out..
.. he's made all types of wierd claims about Kerry and the others. ALL the other people on the boats vehemently deny any of the wierdness he has claimed. He's a nut case, it goes beyond the O'Neill types..

12. he's being propped up ..............
by every right wing talking head on the radio. He's the one guy that's on record as having actually served with Kerry, not "near" him who does not support him. He's petty and contradicts the accounts of others who served with Kerry. Simply put he doesn't like Kerry and is doing what he can to discredit him. He is outnumbered literally ten to one in terms of guys that served with Kerry and support him.

13. But he is also the only crew member who was NOT
with Kerry when any of the actions they are questioning happened. He was not on the Boston Whaler, or on PCF94 when Kerry's actions earned him the last two medals. Gardner was with Kerry on PCF44 and that was only for a short time.
