Non-partisan question: Why does anyone need a "spiritual advisor?"
Especially about political questions. Why bring someone else's irrational feelings (backed by dogma) into a political or societal decision?

1. Why do you assume that they were advising on political matters?

6. As an ordained minister and a PhD in a theological field,
People need someone to give money to in order to feel better about the terrible guilt they feel for shitty lives, and priests need someone to give them money (hey, everyone needs a job!).

Aside from that, without one you are a Godless commie in this country.

7. And how many spiritual advisors does one politician need?
It seems that every week another nutty preacher emerges from the woodwork.

11. Because 90% of this country believes in God
and bring their religious moral values to their political views. When debating those values, it's helpful to know the basis for a belief in order to debate it.

12. Aren't a lot of republicans interested in "conservative values" based on religion? So a dem would
want to show that they are also religious in some capacity to appeal to those voters, or at least try.

13. Well...in AA...
Edited on Thu May-29-08 10:54 PM by stillcool47
my sponsor was my "spiritual advisor"..then I suppose I considered my therapist my 'spiritual advisor'. I guess some people can go through life without getting assistance from another human being. I couldn't. As they say in AA religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell, spirituality is for those who have already been there.

14. To keep the Religionists happy.
You know, those folks who claim to be Christian yet love war and the death sentence and hate the separation of church and state.
