Ickes Expects Defections from Hillary Supporters at DNC Meeting - If Defeated, on to the Convention
Ickes At The Alamo: Clinton's Delegate Counter Warns Of Defections At DNC Meeting

The major dispute over the Florida and Michigan delegations to the Democratic convention in Denver has now boiled down to Hillary Clinton's demand for full seating with no sanctions, and an alternative proposal, likely to be backed by Obama, to seat the delegations with either half a vote granted to each delegate, or to cut each delegation in half.

The Clinton proposal -- which now faces tough, if not insurmountable, odds at the Saturday, May 31 meeting of the Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC) - would give the New York Senator 55 more delegates than would go to Obama.

The alternative of either halved votes or halved delegations would net Clinton only 20 or so delegates, depending on the details. Obama could afford to concede a 20-plus delegate gain to Clinton without endangering his overall delegate advantage.

Harold Ickes, Clinton's chief delegate hunter, warned that there may be some defections among the 13 RBC members who have endorsed Hillary. If Ickes and his allies cannot hold all their troops in line, a motion before the RBC to seat all 210 Florida and 156 Michigan delegates with a full vote each would face certain defeat.

If defeated at the RBC on Saturday, the Clinton forces are expected to file an appeal to the Democratic convention credentials committee and possibly, failing that, to the full convention.

3. Of course. What else would we expect from the Hillary camp? Cont'd divisiveness.
That's what the Hillary camp is all about and has been for some time.

4. Rachael Maddow Has Been Predicting This For Some Time Now...
Everybody on MSNBC thought Rachael was crazy.

If I'm remembering correctly, Maddow suggested that Hillary might really want to lose in this meeting on Saturday, just SO she can appeal to the credentials comittee...

... AT THE CONVENTION!!!

5. Ickes looks like a fool, and the MSM needs to point out how he was
totally in favor of the punishments on MI and FL and voted for those on the RBC. There is no way to spin it...his and Clinton's hypocrisy is astounding, to say the least.

9. Hill , Icky, & Co. only solidify Obama's support & delineate the true leader, Obama, from the
whiny, second team.

6. She won't have the support to take it to the Convention.
Her superdelegates will start leaving. Obama will declare victory and she will be a pathetic sideshow.

By next week, they could seat ALL the delegates, and give them to Hillary any way she wanted, and she still wouldn't have a prayer. She is fighting a losing battle, and she knows it.

She can accept defeat next week, or suffer a huge embarrassment on a National Stage. Either way, she knows she lost.

10. I dont' think it matters to her
I'm sure she started this thing thinking she could get enough delegates to be just close 'enough' to Obama that SD's might defect to her side.
At this point though, I really don't think that matters.
She's backed herself into a corner by claiming that what really matters is for Fl and Mi to be counted.
It seems to me her campaign is now maybe 10% about getting the nomination and 90% about looking like a 'champion of democracy' for her next senate race.

Unless she gets a message loud and clear from NY that this is not helping her chances, I'd say she's likely to take it all the way to the convention.

7. This Is Just Wrong
Why wasn't Hillary Clinton fighting for us before January 29? She was on record as agreeing with the draconian, collective punishment sanctions and even joined the snub when she signed the Four State Pledge - further rubbing salt in our wounds.

Now she acts like she's on our side.

Maybe some of you others who were geeks and losers remember in middle school and high school remember the popular kid who was always mean to (or ignored) you and then one day started being nice. There was usually an ulterior motive - either it was a trap to further embarrass you or they had fallen out of favor with the "in" crowd and were now looking for other friends to fawn over them.

8. Hillary knows only she can be the nominee. She's saving us from ourselves.
What would we do without the Goddess of Peace to rescue us from this Obama person?

12. I do indeed hope the supers shut this garbage down
at this point she is intentionally trying to destroy Obama's chances.

They go to the convention and Obama still wins the Presidency she will be a pariah within the party. It's shameful.

13. Of course. She just won't quit.
It is too bad. What is her great cause here? What is her justification for carrying on all the way to Denver, where she will once again lose? What was it again? Unexpected things happen in June? Such as?

April 1, 2009, FP (Washington)
President Barack Obama today signed the Healthcare for America's Children Act into law. In other news, Hillary is still running.

18. Painted into a corner indeed
think for a moment of all those who were bigwigs in the clinton fiasco. Hillary's team would be branded. If she finally concedes, then they will have lost any chance of running other campaigns. Who wants to hire someone to do work for them when they carry the taint of supporting a looser's bid for public office. Even if they win, they still lose. pride goes before the fall.
