I don't know any women who support Hillary.
Actually that's not entirely true--my wife's aunt supports her.

But that's it. Not my wife, her sister, her mother, my mother, or ANY of the women I know and work with--that I know of, anyway.

There are plenty of Obama stickers in the parking lot where I work. A few Kerry ones still. And unfortunately, some W ones. No Hillary.

Obviously Hillary has support, and my experience is anecdotal--but this meme that all Democratic women are "angry and bitter" because "sexism" has prevented her from women is Simply. Not. True.

I don't doubt that some are angry and bitter.

The ones I know were against her from the start. Ardent Democratic women. Life-long Democratic women.

My wife majored in women's studies in college. She's no shrinking violet. She's no Dixiecrat. She was for Obama from the beginning. She was against Hillary primarily for her calculating vote for the Iraq War. But mainly she was for Obama.

Yes, this is only one experience. But it's a real one. The idea that all liberal women everywhere are somehow injured because of Hillary's supposed treatment just ain't so. There are many women, and men, and blacks, and whites, who are very enthusiastic supporters of Barack Obama.

Yet I was never really able to get behind her. I actually felt guilty for some time that I couldn't find my way to supporting my "fellow sister". I doubt my experience is uncommon.

One is 74, the other is 90 and they are voting for her because she is a woman. They are also in OK, where Sen. Clinton won in the primary earlier this year. They know it as well as I do that OK is not going to turn Blue this fall. Two NY women who are leaning Hillary and voted for her in the primary will vote for the Democratic candidate no matter who it is.

I know 2 Republican women (81, 64) and one Independent (66) who are voting for Obama.

Me, I can't wait to vote for Change and Hope! GObama!

Edited to post my own preference.

7. I don't know any Clinton supporters in "real life" either
That's why I have a few of the more antagonistic ones here on ignore. It's not really because I don't want to engage in dialogue with them, it's just that I don't want to let my caricatured vision of a few of her supporters on the internet prevent me from voting for her (if I have to) if by some miracle she becomes the nominee. I remember at the start of this particular political season, being really careful when I brought up the subject of Hillary Clinton around my female friends (I think that the Gloria Steinem article, as dumb as it is, made me really paranoid about being accused of being a traitor to my gender), but once we started talking, we had exactly the same reservations about Hillary Clinton. Has anyone read that book that came out recently, essays by women about their connections and thoughts on Hillary Clinton? It's a mixture of positive and negative reactions by female writers to Hillary Clinton, and I would be interested to read it. I also think that the MSM is salivating at the thought of getting "angry women" at the protest tomorrow, when I would assume that it would be a mixture of all of her constituencies.

I, too, am in Hillary's supposed demographic. I don't get it.

My sister is a bit of a bitter woman who feels shorted in life (even though that isn't true). Maybe Hillary gets the "bitter" vote.

All the women in my 'inner circle' are for Obama; I've been for him all along, but Hillary truly lost us all with her campaign tactics. I really hate how she's cloaking herself in some sort of feminist martyrdom to deflect the fact that she really lost because of her own campaign's arrogance and poor planning.

progress regardless of Hillary no matter how she spins it. The story Hillary trys to tell is women won't make it without Hillary, well that is a misunderstanding of, independent women, on its own.

Can women get ahead without Hillary in office, yes they can.

23. of course there are millions of women who support Hillary
The OP is not a denial of that. And I don't think it's neccesarily proof that any people who don't know women who support Hillary lead "isolated lives". Part of the reason why I like posting here is because I don't really know any Hillary supporters in my personal life, and I like to have some form of interaction with them. I wouldn't think it's odd if an African American said that, even though demographics would suggest that they would support Obama, all or most of the African Americans that they know support Hillary Clinton.

Paper trail! Paper trail!

A face-to-face meeting would also alleviate some of my fears!

Possibly a lie-detector test...

26. This 41-year old dem female is voting for Obama.
As a "latte liberal", I actually see a different divide. Many women, and especially many over 50, really did experience extreme sexism and want to see a female in the role. You've got to admit she's a hell of a lot smarter than George Bush. It really annoys me that someone like Bush could be president while so many more qualified women and men were pushed aside. It seems though, that the divide is more along the lines of race and income. Many traditional blue-collar men and women are supporting Hillary, perhaps because she was at Bill's side when he fought for them. I'm not a big fan of the Clintons but there are many out there who are. In this election year, however, Barack Obama came along and he is the type of inspirational leader one is lucky to see in their lifetime, in my view. He is inclusive at a time when the country needs healing, and more liberal - which is also sorely needed to balance things out after 8 years of fasicm. I'm willing to forego my tax cuts to get someone like Obama in office. We will be a better and stronger country when he is in charge.

30. Her direct appeal to women has turned off many of the women in my family
My wife has said she finds it insulting that she should be expected to support a woman based solely on the fact that she is a woman herself. I can see her point, but I'm staying safely out of it anyway. I think the denunciation should come from women, where it actually has some validity. As a male, I'm not really inclined to speak to this in public myself for risk of appearing insensitive or chauvinistic.

women I know are supporting Obama; a couple are Ron Paul supporters, and I suspect a couple of the women in the office are McSame supporters, since they were ardent Busheviks, although maybe they've come to their senses in the last 7 years.
My 87 year old mom, my 87 year old MIL, all my sisters in law (except my brother's wife; she's a rePuke just like my brother) are Obama supporters. (Oh, one other sister in law is a fundie lunatic; she's a Bushbot and is probably a McSame supporter.)
I know a lot of women who were Kucinich or Edwards supporters originally; my guess is that's why most are now in the Obama camp - it's the war issue for them, primarily.

59. Both Hillary supporters I know
are white men. Both of these men do not seem racist personally, but do seem honestly concerned that the nation will not elect a black man. Four years ago, this could have made sense. At that point, about half of the country still mistakenly saw the republicans as generally competent. In that context, the small number of votes the polling suggests will be decided on racial preference, could have thrown the race.

At this point, electing another stupid republican, regardless of complexion, will be a very tough sell.

As far as this is concerned, I think electing any woman to the office would have been quite tough in 2004 as well.

The point being that Bush's incompetence has been sufficiently profound and abundantly clear at this point to outweigh the vast bulk of prejudice and sexism. When we win, and we no doubt will, with either of these candidates, one thing will be clear, only through Bush being the utter a**hole he is, did any of this become possible. Of course, arrogance and stupidity were the dependable things about Bush.
