This would be a good time for both Democratic candidates discuss the relationship between church and state.

What's going on in the United Church of Christ?
I used to go to a United Church of Christ church and never heard anything I considered political. The sermons were always about Christian values: loving each other, caring for the poor etc.

2. I guess attending Trinity is like going to
an interactive comedy show. Very little to do with Christianity. All about black liberation theology and making fun of "whitey".

3. And what is your problem with that??
Can't stand the same thing that's been done to AA in America since 1690, or whenever??

Hypocrite.

10. Unlike Hillary's pastor
who wants to take over the world and subjugate it to the rule of Jesus.

I'll take the interactive comedy show, thanks just the same

8. Frankly I think the UCC is heretical.
But it doesn't bug me any more than all the other heretics I see out there.

11. It's just classic liberation theology...
which ahs always been very political and focused on current events -- the Rev. Martin Luther King is probably the most well-known practitioner. From all I read, Trinity puts into daily practice all the traditional Christian values.

15. You may want to look at the specific church
but not the whole UCC. I guess I must be a terrible person. I found his words to be mocking and sarcastic but not political. The priest should be disciplined and perhaps his apology should be directed to the Clintons as well as Obama. I have only heard the blip provided by the MSM and I am only addressing what is being played a hundred times an hour. The priest's comments were inappropriate and he should know better. We have had eight year or more of pastors and churches speaking out politically. The conservative, religious right churches seem to get away with it while a progressive church can say something about peace and have the IRS breathing down its neck.

I mean, you.even use the phrase "from what little I've seen." Good Lord.

18. It has to do with hate, not Christianity.
And this church seems to have plenty of hate for those who do not agree with them. Obama needs to remove himself from the roll of the church if he wants to be successful in November.

19. I'd like to know, too. And I'm a UCC pastor.
I was watching this "sermon" in my living room last night, just having finished my exegesis for my sermon this coming Sunday. There I am, on my living room floor, surrounded by Bibles, lexicons, and commentaries, when I turn on the TV and see this. And all I could wonder was "What the hell text is he supposed to be preaching?!". The job of a preacher is to expound a text, not give his personal views from the pulpit. Pfleger was completely out of line.

And I'd STILL like to know what his text was.

21. The job of a preacher is to preach
Texts should certainly be the foundation, but it is not a requirement as far as I know.

Or is there some governing board that I am not aware of for liscensing minsiters/pastors/priests?

22. Actually, each denomination has a licensing board,
including the United Church of Christ. And yes, in the United Church of Christ--of which Trinity is a member congregation--the job of a preacher is to expound a biblical text. Maybe Pfleger meant to be preaching a text. I'd just like to know what that text was.
