msnbc just said his favorables have dropped to 42% down 13pts since Feb. That means his unfavorables are at 58%.

and it's a fact that every last time a contentious convention was held by a party in the past forty-four years, the party with the contentious convention lost.

Every last Super Delegate knows that fact. Hillary Clinton recognizes that fact and knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that if she takes it to the convention and Barack Obama loses, she will be the most vilified political figure in recent memory. More vilified even than George W. Bush.

Parties that take it to the convention ALWAYS LOSE!!!

1988 DEM - Jackson goes to the conventiion where his supporters demand he be given the Veep spot because he came in second. Dukakis loses

1984 DEM - Hart goes to the convention, Mondale loses.

1980 DEM - Kennedy takes it to the convention, Carter loses

1976 GOP - Reagan takes it to the convention, Ford loses.

1972 DEM - TOTAL WEIRDNESS at the Dem convention with new rules and non-porportional delegate allocation. Strange sessions starting in the morning and running through to the next morning. McGovern loses.

1968 DEM - McCarthy takes it to Chicago. Riots in the streets. Humphrey loses.

1964 GOP - Nelson Rockefeller takes it to the convention against Goldwater. Goldwater loses.


Your polls are meaningless because you do not unite the party after a contentious convention in the television age.

You cannot unite the party in two months. IT simply cannot be done.

What you are saying if you want it to go the the convention is, you want McCain to win. That is the only conclusion.

With that, it no longer serves any purpose for me to discuss the issue with somebody who is obviously a MCCain supporter.

It's ovious the party elders have spoken with Hillary and she is preparing to concede next week.

She knows the implications of a convention fight and what it means to Democratic chances. She also knows the likelihood of winning in a floor fight is almost nil.

She'll be the good Democrat and concede in the end. There's no longer any fighting it. She fought the good fight and came up short and I certainly understand her taking it all the way when there was at least something resembling a chance for her to win because the other dynamic in this race is the incumbent president has the lowest approval ratings in history, the economy is in the tank, and it's the end of a second term for the incumbent party.

Her year, though, was 2004. She would have won the nomination hands down and she would have destroyed George W. Bush in the general election. Ironcially, Barack Obama would have been nothing more than a novelty in the Senate had she chosen to run in 2004.

If we lose this election it will be because Obama lost the white working class and the woman's votes due to the misogamy toward Clinton.
Hateful Obama supporters don't help either. His supporters turn off more people than they turn on.

DU or you have no idea who I will vote for. I could go Rah, Rah Obama and vote for someone else and I will vote for who I want in the voting booth. If you think everyone on the board will be for Obama next week...you are naive.

We can join in on any discussion we want...as long as we don't push negative comments regarding Obama. I have actively been pushing Hillary...and till just recently I never made anti Obama comments....so I doubt if I'd have trouble following the rules.

It's you that regularly post negative nasty comments about Hillary. It's you that will have trouble following the rules if Hillary were on the ticket. Good luck with that problem..should it arise.

You have an incumbent president with the lowest approval ratings in history.

You have an economy in the tank.

And you have an election after two terms of Republican rule.

The only way the incumbent party can win under those conditions is if the opposition party has a contentious convention.

That's higher than McCain's at 10.4
And 3 times higher than Hillary's 4.6

You could have a favorable rating of 42 and and unfavorable of 2%.

FYI Intrade which is the most accurate predictor of future events - far better than polling - in which people invest actually on what they think is likely outcome has Obama at about 57.7 and McCain 38.1 at only http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6180124

In addition McCain's support is very soft while Obama's is very strong.

For example McCain is only polling 50% in his home state of Arizona and Obama has 10%. Obama leads McCain by 30 points in Illinois.

And the Libertarian party nominated a Republican Congressman Bob Barr to run and if pulls just 4 points from McCain across the US it will move 8 'safe republican states' into contention.

It is really a personal decision that one makes when they get in the voting booth. No one will know until the day after the election. Let us hope that Clinton supporters are not so angry that they don't vote for Obama when they get into the polling place. I hope the real world Obama supporters out there do not treat Clinton supporters like they do on DU. If they did, we would be screwed. President McCain?? Scares the crap out of me.

I have been here since Year One, and I am telling you - DU is not a representative sample of the liberal or progressive population.

We're like the agitated-just-got-kicked-by-a-kid anthill of Democrats and progressives. :-)
