Donna Brazile SOCKS It The Clinton Campaign/Supporters
Donna Brazile comes out!
by Jena
Fri May 30, 2008 at 04:56:45 PM PDT
She really socks it to the Clinton campaign/supporters - it's stunning stuff. Inter alia,

"What would Democrats gain by taking this debate any further, especially when the party is now engaged in the kind of polarizing politics that we once denounced the GOP for using for partisan gain. What can be won by tainting the process, arguing the rules are now unfair, or worse, the Republican rule of winner-takes-all should have guided the Democrats as well? All this fuss is simply about saving face and waiting to see whether some awful thing tarnishes the presumptive nominee. It's shameful, short-sighted, mean-spirited and morally unacceptable. Now, I said it.

To my longstanding friends in the feminist community who have called out the media as being culturally sexist and misogynistic, it is time to help educate the American public about the corrosive impact of sexism in politics and elsewhere. But we can have this dialogue without using divisive language and political tactics that further threaten to divide our country and party. If another woman comes up to me in an airport and suggests Obama should wait his turn, I might scream, "Stop it!" This is not about who should be first, it's about who has the most delegates and who might make the best president of the United States.

The most tragic thing I have heard is this need to link the Obama camp to pundits inside the media who have used the "math" historically used to call an election with attempts to push Hillary out of the race. After all, when the senator held a lead in every national poll in 2007, the media described her groundbreaking campaign as being inevitable. No one called that sexist."

For the entire statement:

Think what you want about Kerry. I think he would have been a better President than he was a candidate. BUT I couldn't get over the fact that she would publicly slam him right after the election.

I really have a problem with Dem pundits slamming other Dems.
Divided we fail.

22. It pains me to say this but she was right. I do think he would have been a better
president than he was as a candidate. As a candidate he was always making mistakes and playing right into Rove's hands. They started to paint him as a flip-flopper and then he gave them examples to prove their point. I never dreamed he could lose against Bush. I think if he had been able to define himself (rather than let them define him) he would have had a much better shot at winning. A good thing that came out of it is that Obama saw the mistakes that Kerry made (and Dean as well) and was able to come in this campaign bigger and better. He saw what happened to Kerry so he responds almost immediately. Then he also saw the success that Dean had with the internet and energizing young people and he sought out to improve on that. Even though Kerry and Dean did not win the presidency they truly helped Obama to become the outstanding candidate that he is today.

38. Right...the very LAST thing Carville wanted
was for Hillary to have to run against a Democratic incumbent in 2008. But it looks like things aren't working out the way he planned.

I think Carville was the driving force behind Kerry's premature concession, when it was so obvious the Ohio vote was stolen. Of course Donna Brazile also played her part in the whitewash of the Ohio fraud, and I haven't forgotten or forgiven her yet. But this most recent statement makes me like her a little better than I did before. Not much...but a little.

85. There is an extensive US News & World Report article indicating otherwise
Unfortunately now in the pay to access archive. Dean's Iowa ground game consisted of bringing large numbers of outside volunteers in, who then required the kind of attention from the campaign that should have been devoted to cultivating local contacts. Kerry hired a guy with a lot of experience organizing for caucuses who got a lot of local people trained. They were asked to get signed cards as statements of support for Kerry, and to specifically avoid fooling themselves about the intentions of "maybes."

94. The actual success in the Iowa caucuses was vote swapping.
Kerry<-->Gephardt
Edwards<-->Kucinich

Kerry got Gepgardt's fractional votes, Edwards got Kucinichs'. That's not to say that there weren't a lot of neophytes in Dean's campaign. The Congressional Club circled their wagons.

29. I clearly remember wincing. The first day of his campaign:

"I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty" with the salute.

I hung my head and told myself, breathe slowly and deeply, count your breaths.
Unbelievable as it should've been, I already knew he was going to lose.

Lemme put it this way: what he is as a politician and a man of principle aside, he was a crappy "candidate". His message was out of sync because he let Bush and the neo-cons define it. Esp. the whole bullshit emphasis on the US pres as being "commander in chief" of a war operation.

Obama, in contrast, has never given me anything remotely like such an unpleasant moment.

63. Kerry and the Democrats tried to play the military card -
I think that DNC chairman, Mcauliffe (sp) had something to do
with that...the idea that the Democrats can beat the
Republicans at their own game - the political strategy of
playing the military card and being stronger on national
security.

The way John Kerry fell for the swift boating - he should not
have run from his anti-war position in the Vietnam War. His
congressional testimony took a lot of courage and getting out
of the war saved a lot of US soldiers' lives.

The national security = defense is a losing proposition for
the Democratic Party.

In 2002 when Maryland Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy
Townsend picked a retired admiral as a running mate in the
gubernatorial election and lost miserably. She had numerous
and more qualified non-military candidates to choose from.
Similarly, in Fla. the DP supported a former Vietnam Vet (no
other experience) over Janet Reno in the primaries. Janet
Reno lost the primary and the Democrats lost the race for
governor of Fla.

The DP should look at the issue of the definition of 'national
security' in terms of health care, environmental quality etc.,
etc. rather than just in terms of physical strength and a big
military budget.

46. The Truth
Kerry didn't lose in 04. Like the coup of 2000, the facts are clear. The election was stolen by the same thugs who grabbed the presidency from Gore. The data is irrefutable. And guess what? The 06 congressional election was also tampered with. Rove knew that he could keep Congress in gridlock by manipulating several races that should have gone to Dems (the data shows the Dems should have won 50 seats. The Dems were giddy that they gained 29 of those seats.

All this hullabaloo about Florida and Michigan delegates has the Repugs laughing in their beer. The fix is already in for 08. The radical Busheviks won't give up control, knowing that they may face war crime tribunals. Even if by some miracle, Obama garners enough votes to overcome the fix, the new president will never take office. Martial law exercises have been going on for the last few weeks in several states (Alabama, Tennessee, and soon in Indiana). Wonder why?

If she decides to continue to compete for popular votes and delegates, she has every right to do so. DNC Chairman Howard Dean will not stop the process -- nor does he have any right to do so. And that also goes for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who will chair the convention in Denver.

Democratic primary voters will need time for reconciliation, and the process needs to start sooner rather than later. Healing takes time.

Both Clinton and Obama agree that once preconditions have been met, speaking to foreign enemies is a necessary first step toward peace. This basic tenet of diplomacy is best practiced by first being able to speak to one's colleagues at home.

At the very least, however difficult, it's a good place to start. Come dawn on
the fourth day of June, it will be high time to lay down arms, leaving hands free to pick up the olive branch and unite before going into battle.

Subtext: The last vote is counted on June 3rd. There are no more popular or pledged votes to be counted. Figure out whether or not the SD support you and accept that outcome. We have a real battle to fight against Republicans and we need to suit up.

I HAVE SO enjoyed her comments throughout this primary especially when it came to finishing her point and explaining the DNC process of thinking to everyone else. I'm glad she has stood up for herself when someone approaches her in airports and in other places.

You go woman!

60. Been hearing that through the whole primary...
hillary s/b pres. 2008-2016; Obama could take it in 2016 and we'd have 16 years with a democratic president! He needs to wait his turn. (Someone also suggested that he could be her V.P. and bill could "get him ready" over the 8 years).

The thing is, with the way some of her supporters are sounding, I think they would manage to find a reason not to vote for him if he did "wait his turn". It is so upsetting to hear one of them say that, although she has voted democratic her whole life, this cycle she will sit it out. Something smells....

Now I see her as showing her merit and showing her worth by saying, guys there is a better way. All I can ask a sister to be is confident in her point of view.

Who are you to judge race and gender in that way?

And on DU, especially GDP, everybody judges everyone. Get off your high horse.

42. GoP-lovin' Donna
Donna, you have zero credibility with Dem women voters. Zero.

You have no record of accomplishment on women's issues or in helping get Dem women elected to office.

Admit it, Donna, if Bush hadn't screwed up so badly and ruined the GoP brand for the next several years, you would be working for them.

Get lost, you lame fool.

You said: "Donna, you have zero credibility with Dem women voters."
Implying that all Dem women voters think alike, which is incredibly ignorant and prejudicial.

48. Donna Brazile? Who thanked Bush for the great job he did with Katrina?
The same Donna Brazille that thanked Bush for the great job he did during Katrina? I should listen to her? No wonder Gore lost having this nitwit on his team. You don't have to be a Clinton supporter to want the votes counted, for heaven's sake! Has the DNC lost it's mind? They want to punish voters for voting in an election yeat? This is madness. I don't know how many times I have heard from Democrats when the votes WEREN'T Counted in Florida in 2000, it was "the day Democracy died". Seems pretty hypocritical now. Counting the votes will not hurt Obama, it will actually help, if voters know you give a damn about their votes.

New Orleans is my hometown. It is the place where I grew up, where my family still lives. For me, it is a place of comfort and memories. It is home.

Now my home needs your help, and the help of every American. Much of my city is still underwater. Its historical buildings have been wrecked, its famous streets turned to rivers and, worst of all, so many of its wonderful people -- including members of my own family and my neighbors -- have lost everything.

On Thursday night President Bush spoke to the nation from my city. I am not a Republican. I did not vote for George W. Bush -- in fact, I worked pretty hard against him in 2000 and 2004. But on Thursday night, after watching him speak from the heart, I could not have been prouder of the president and the plan he outlined to empower those who lost everything and to rebuild the Gulf Coast.

Bush called on every American to stand up and support the rebuilding of the region. He told us that New Orleans and the entire Gulf Coast would rise from the ruins stronger than before. He enunciated something that we all need to remember: This is America. We are not immune to tragedy here, but we are strong because of our industriousness, our ingenuity and, most important, because of our compassion for one another. We are a nation of rebuilders and a nation of givers. We do not give up in the face of tragedy, we stand up, and we reach out to help those who cannot stand up on their own.

The president called on every American to reach out to my neighbors in New Orleans and throughout the Gulf Coast. The great people of this country have already opened their hearts in the immediate aftermath of the storm, and their tremendous generosity has done more than just provide extra comfort -- it has saved lives. Now the crisis of survival is over. But the task of rebuilding remains, and the president made it clear that every single one of us has a role to play.

end of quote.

Go and look. Not a single. solitary word of criticism at all about his handling of Katrina.

64. dsc yup.. Brazile had "never been prouder"
thank you for putting up the link before I had the chance http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/16/AR2005091602167_pf.html

I wonder how "proud" Donna is now? I couldn't believe it when I read what she said. But it gets even better..Donna telling Cindy Adams in an interview that "bush was a stand up guy". Who bush was "standing up" for is beyond me. I don't pay attention to anything Donna Brazile says anymore...I think she's nuts. And I'm a woman, so I guess it's safe to say it without sounding "sexist".

65. She did not join his camp.
She stated her opinion at the meeting (which might imply her support of him (and not vice versa), but she is still an uncommitted SD), and there is nothing to indicate that she represents him or speaks for him or has been "approved" by him.

The smear by association thing is getting really old.

82. I'm on her side in this. Though my candidate won't be the nominee, the good of the party
will be served.

That's far more important than what is now petty bickering,

It looks like our choices will be Obama, McCain, and ???

I have a strong and clear preference for the one with the (D) behind his name.

Yesterday, I talked with my sister who said she didn't vote for Kerry in 2004 because she thought Teresa Heinz Kerry was "harsh". I lectured her about how "this is not sorority popularity contest, for God's sake (and ours)". It's strictly a political choice! It's about what policies we want to see put in place. While we'd love that our favorite is the one that does is unimportant. What's important is that someone puts those policies in place. And a Republican isn't going to do it! Not ever!"

So, after having given that lecture to her, I'm going to take it to heart myself. What's important is the policies that the Democratic Party stands for. I'll be sad if my choice isn't the nominee, but I'll be elated when a Democrat wins. And I'll do everything I can to make that happen.

Now I'm going to have my cookies and milk, go to bed, and tomorrow will be another day.
