What the hell is Barack Obama talking about?
Talk is Cheap, Even With Enemies, and By the Way, Rivals Aren't Enemies
by Dave Lindorff

The closest we come to having an actual enemy in today's world is North Korea, where we are technically still in some kind of truce following a hot war, but of course that war itself has been over for half a frigging century,

1. OK, so when Barack is saying we should not be afraid to talk to anyone,
he should still be criticized for calling them "enemies" (which the Repubs do) instead of rivals... now that's nitpicking!

I do agree that rivals is a better word, but I wouldn't rake Obama over the coals over it.

4. Even enemies can become friends with the right diplomacy. We can't
treat people like dirt and make enemies out of them. History has shown lack of diplomacy caused terrible things. Now no nitpicking.

5. I read the link before reading any of the replies posted here...
the word I was thinking of when I clicked back to this post was nitpick.

Hmmmmmmm

6. If you don't think nitpicking wins an election you haven't been around long

8. You don't want to start that one, I promise you :-)
1) Whether it wins or not, it's still nitpicking.

2) If it is effectively portrayed as nitpicking, it won't win; the only way nitpicking wins is when it is allowed to appear substantive.

3) I've probably still got a Stevenson button around. When was your first rodeo?

7. First, the guy that wrote this article is an idiot
South and North Korea are not "technically at some kind of truce" they signed an armistice.

Second, the definition of an enemy is "one that is antagonistic to another".

Third, I have to wonder if he is just the OP touting his own blog entry.

9. The North Korean War has technically never ended - thats correct.
Soldiers occassionally still get shot at across the border although I forget when the last incident was. Its not considered a peaceful border
