Poll question: Which Party Elder is Held in Highest Esteem, Has the Most Influence? Carter, Clinton, Gore?
I submit that it is now Albert Gore, Jr. who is held in the highest esteem within our party, who has the most influence.

I pose this question because even though we have two former presidents, it appears that the gravity of influence is now with Al Gore.

And I think that Al Gore, outside our party's nominee at the convention, will receive the greatest thunder of applause.

So I am curious as to what the DU community thinks on this question:

Gore, Clinton or Carter? Which of those three now hold the greatest respect within the Democratic National Party?

3. In this election its Al Gore
He has a recent nobel peace prize and he hasn't weighed in on the election at all.

He has the most credibility.

Bill Clinton has no credibility in this election and Carter already has released who he privately supports. He's undeclared not undecided.

4. I'd say Gore.
Carter is still respected, especially for the work he's done since he was President. Bill C., maybe not so much, considering the last few months.

6. Rachel Maddow just blew MSNBC away with a point
he said that Howard Dean's statement about Al Gore's comment
when he was listening to Howard Dean's anger over the party

Was that this was about Al Gore not Howard Dean. Al Gore and Howard Dean are going to a
big fundraiser tonight.... She thinks this was a message to the party

AL Gore will endorse tonight at the fundraiser.

I would be shocked if he did before the last three primaries.

17. That was during Dean's candidacy in 2004 - now the Now
"What do I owe the Democratic party after the way it has treated me?" Dean asked Gore, who had listened to Dean's fury for 20 minutes.

"Howard," Gore responded after a pause, "this is not about you; it's about the Country."

Dean said no one, not even his wife, could have talked to him like that at that time. But he listened to Gore and put his anger aside.

Dean relayed this story to give another example of how candidates become very angry at times during these contests. He was furious at something the Democratic party had done to him.

I would be amazed if Gore endorsed anyone at the fundraiser. I am sure he's doing this at Dean's request to raise money for the party and the GE. To give evidence of a preference for a candidate at that event would undermine the reason Gore was chosen to host it.

I almost stood and applauded when Dean referenced Gore having had the election snatched from him by 5 intellectually bankrupt Supreme Court judges. I suddenly remembered why I love this guy.

25. Bill Clinton threw all of us under the bus. He had such an opportunity.
A two-term Dem president who gave the ammunition to vile, anti-American haters like Rush Limbaugh. He had such an opportunity, and did so many things well, that it's one of the great tragedies in U.S. history that he got his willie whacked, and was reduced to crap changes like V-chips for television sets and other cowardly triangulation schemes.

Al Gore and Jimmy Carter, thank you very much.

the most successful Dem president and vice presidential team in recent times, notwithstanding Obama and his supporter's hateful attempts to revise history and destroy the good record of their accomplishments simply because he's running against Clinton's wife.

29. Three presidents ....
two former, one elected.

I think each of the three has a different type of power and influence; each type is significant, but it is difficult to compare them.

One can raise more money, and that is one form of power and influence in today's political world. Another can connect with more grass roots democrats, and this, too, is a form of power and influence. One can call upon our better natures, and that is power and influence. One can raise environmental awareness, which is power and influence. One can talk to the most world leaders, and that is power and influence. One can communicate the value of our nation's history in a way that is a form of power and influence.

33. 99 say Al Gore, 15 say Jimmy Carter, and only 5 say Bill Clinton
This poll began yesterday and the early trend has remained the same.

Al Gore clearly is held in very, very high esteem here at the DU.
