1. off course they are
but presumedly you are asking about how closely they are split. Nearly every poll I have seen indicates an easy Kerry win in California.

3. No.
We also can absentee vote and most of us are going that route.

4. Los Angeles County.....................
has those inkavote ballots. You mark your choice with a black marker. I am still going to go absentee; I don't want to get a surprise at the polling place and find they have snuck in the computers.

California is most definitely split: about 70% Kerry, 30% Bush. Bush came here the other day, and only 500 people in Santa Monica showed up at his event. Not sure why he bothered.

5. Kerry is up by around 20 points in most
polls--Ca is probably his safest state. It may tighten up a bit--I could see * narrowing Kerry's lead here to 17 or 18 points if he spends enough money (just a joke).

I have never voted with anything except an old fashioned punch card and a stylist. I have heard nothing about my district changing anything either (Cali is short of extra money at the moment).

Of course being a very careful and paranoid person--I always double check my punch card before I turn it in to make sure that all my punches are clear.

7. yeah, but that's a pointless thing to say
You could say the same thing the other way around: if we lop of San Diego and Orange County than it's OVERWHELMINGLY Democratic. It's sort of disingenious - of course, vote share will change if you suddenly remove a key population from a state.

I know you mean well, but it's sort of like Rush Limbaugh's statement: "If you don't include the Black Vote, Bush won in a landslide." Yeah. So what? Blacks vote too. So do NoCalis.

10. That's Why * Has Been Trying to Goad NK
Their :nuke::nuke::nuke: can only hit blue states on the West Coast,
with big Democratic cities being the most likely targets.

The BFEE may really be that evil.

12. First of all, don't come HERE and call it "Frisco", mac...
Second of all, here is a map of how the state voted in 2000. I firmly believe that Kerry is going to do much better here than Gore did. I'm sure every county that went for Gore will go to Kerry, and I'm willing to bet several more will, as well...

As you can see, Los Angeles County (the most populous in the state) went to Gore. Santa Barbara county went to Gore. Almost the ENTIRE COAST (which is where most of the people are) went to Gore, all the way up to Humboldt.

If you think that big dark green blob is all "Frisco", man, you've got a geographical size perception problem. One thing is for sure, though-- there are 33 Million of us, we are overwhelmingly pro-choice, we don't like Bush and his band of theocratic right wing fundamentalist nutjobs, and DC ignores us and our 55 Electoral College votes at their peril.

Bush is about as popular as a root canal in this state.

17. Well, and you look at a map like that, it's misleading..
Just like a map of the US, where you see all this red and then small concentrations of blue..

So, okay, Wyoming is Red, but that doesn't mean that horses and rocks and sagebrush vote. There's, what, 500,000 people in all of Wyoming? That's less than in the (small) city of San Francsico. So, it may translate to a big chunk of red on the map, but it's not a whole helluva lot of people. Same with this map of CA. The counties in, say, the central valley don't have that much population, but they skew more conservative.

As to why the coasts tend to be more democrat and liberal? Well, they're nicer places to live, generally, and smart people tend to live there.

15. Ads are expensive in this state
I think gaging the use of TV ads will an indicator of just how much either side thinks California is in play. If either side spends much money, that side will think it is in play.
I don't California has been in play for some time. I didn't see any Gore ads in 2000, and no Clinton/Bush(ver 1.0)/Dole from previous elections stand out.
