Lots of support on DU or Clark as VP.
But no where else really.

Is he on any short-list? Does Obama even know he's alive?

7. That doesn't help much.
I know how to use google. Thanks though. :)

It's still just a smathering of activist Clarkies. Nothing from unbiased analysts - to the extent such an animal exists. An unbiased analyst is like a unicorn, I guess.

What I didn't find was a reference to them having talked or worked on a project or anything.

I guess I would conclude that Clark is sort of a dark horse in this VP race.

17. I'm sorry that you missed Lawrence O'Donnell and I am sorry if it didn't occur to
you that clicking the same search with "news" might bring up some more MSM. I'm not going to do your work for you. I thought you were being sincere and really wanted to know. Here is one from Reuters with Clark the second mentioned:

24. That helps a lot.
I don't know why you would conclude that I am not sincere because I prefer to post a reasonable question to a well-informed community rather than wade through hundreds of meaningless google hits.

Actually, "google is your friend" is both condescending and inaccurate. Google is shit and it's destroying the web.

Not going to do my work for me? Thank you, featherman, but you just did. Now was that so hard?

27. Sorry... I didn't think "Google is your friend" anything condescending or snarky
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 02:25 PM by featherman
but just a friendly, joking reference. I apologize if it came off that way. It's something we say in the office to each other pretty regularly and it's kind of a running joke around here.

Actually I thought your original question quite thoughtful and insightful and it did make me wonder if we were the only ones talking about this. So I went to Google to do a superficial check before I answered. I was my fault not to have clicked the "news" search as well before responding. It would have been a better reponse than my original link.

I did wonder, however, why you hadn't used it more thoroughly researching for your particular question since a few key strokes would have brought up several MSM news references to Clark as a Veep possibility. There are not tons for Clark or anybody besides Clinton at this early point in time but enough to conclude that others besides DU might consider him a viable candidate.

As a side matter, I don't share your opinion about Google destroying the internet since Google is extremely important to my own business and accounts for about 70% of my search traffic. So I like it, personally and professionally.

28. No blood, no foul.
I didn't research more thoroughly because 1) DU knows better than anyone and 2) I am on a dial-up service of about 28K and wildly clicking through hundreds of links would take the better part of my day. I didn't need to know that badly. LOL!

Off topic comment about Google: When the amount you "pay per click" is more significant than the content of the site, they are ruining the web. Obviously, you're directing traffic to the people who paid you, not necessarily the people with the right information.

Can you imagine asking a librarian for research assistance and he or she keeps giving you People Weekly because Time Warner gave the library a gazzilion dollars?

That's effectively what Google does these days.

We don't even have to get started talking about the censorship. Power corrupts.

That said, it's still the best game in town.

Thank you again for your help answering the question.

8. He's ineligible for another 2 years.
By law, the Secretary of Defense cannot have been in the military for 10 years: Wesley Clark retired in 2000. Perhaps the National Security Advisor's slot would be a good fit for him?

That's absolutely right, actually. There should be civilian control of the military, as intended.

4. I'd like to see him as
Sec of state. He has so much diplomatic experience in addition to the military experience. I think it would be a good combination.

Sort of like what Powell could have been if he hadn't bought into and perpetuated the lies.

23. Wes sent me an email:
There has never been a more important election in my lifetime -- with a war waging, gas prices at record highs, our health care in crisis, and our nation's standing around the world severely diminished. I spent the last year traveling across the country talking to great Americans in Iowa, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, South Dakota, Indiana and many other places. They all agree on one thing: This country needs new leadership, and it's time for change.

Many of you in the Clark community answered the call. Some of you worked tirelessly for Senator Clinton while others poured hours into Senator Obama's campaign. You did this because you were willing to sacrifice your time and energy to bring the change we so desperately need. I can't thank you enough for all you have done.

Now I am asking you to come together and make sure Barack Obama is our next president. This is a critical mission.

Hillary Clinton ran an amazing race. She inspired millions. Our party is a better party because of her campaign, and our nation is a better nation because of her service. She is and will always be a friend whom I admire.

I congratulate Senator Barack Obama on securing the nomination. His historic campaign has touched lives and his message has moved people in every corner of America. I believe he is not only ready for the challenge but will be a great President.

It's time our party comes together to stand behind Senator Obama as we move forward in this election season. I look forward to doing everything I can to help Senator Obama's campaign. While I respect John McCain's service, I know exactly what he stands for -- Bush's third term. America is a great nation, and our people deserve more. We need Barack Obama to be our next president.

Democrats have been slammed on all things military and national defense for so long--and McCain and his cronies are going to try it again with Obama. We have a retired general with strong progressive views and an awesome resume that can counter and slam the republicans on this line of attack. Clark is like a gift to the Democratic Party-and it is time we embrace him.

Clark not only would give us credibility on national security, and foreign affairs, but he could be an asset as Obama considers the bloated military budget and tries to make the most effective and efficient use of our tax dollars. There is a lot of fat in the military budget---and Clark could help on that. Billion dollar bombers and no body armor for troops--real smart and logical isn't it??
