Survey USA has a wierd poll out of Minnesota: Insane does better w/ younger voters; Obama w/ older
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 01:44 PM by book_worm
I'm surprised how close Survey USA has it in Minnesota. Obama leads InSane 47-46, but this is what really surprised me:

18-34 48-48 (tie)
35-49 52-41 (InSane ahead)
50-64 52-40 (Obama ahead)
65 plus 49-38 (Obama leading)

1. That's laughable
If there is ever such a thing as an outlier, it's this one.

2. Its the silly season of polling
whereas they take numbers and crunch them confusing folks into
thinking the unthinkable.

Its called spinning the polls....

4. I can tell you, as a Minnesotan, that's not close to the truth.

Survey USA is flat out wrong on this.

8. Heh. Well, it IS bullshit.
:hi: NS. How are you? Did you make it to the rally? Unfortunately I had a stupid summer cold so I couldn't make the history making event. Boo!

I hope you're enjoying our 4th day of spring. What is the "sunlight" I've heard so much about. :D

5. Democrats have much more than a 5 point affiliation edge in Minnesota.
This poll is crap.

6. I'm a Minnesotan, and that's just bullshit
The only people I know who are supporting McCain are a small handful of dedicated conservatives I went to law school with, and they are minimally enthused about his candidacy as it stands. Even my republican-leaning M-I-L is going Obama this year.

13. "likely voters"
Says it all. First-time voters energized by Obama wouldn't be included in this poll.

9. With no sig diff overall, the subgroup results may not have sig. statistically
There is, however, a pattern in some states of youth vote (18-25 -- hope group) and older votes (65+ social security group) going democratic

12. True, but they have the youth vote tied.
The proper analysis is what does the poll show (tied youth vote) vs. what one would expect (huge double-digit lead for Obama). That's why the poll is suspect. Also, it's important to note that it is a poll of "likely voters" which probably excludes any first-time voters Obama has energized.

11. "likely voters"
I think that explains part of the youth discrepancy. "Likely voters" usually don't include first-time voters.

15. I don't believe any of the polls out there because
they're only as good as pollster, and everyone involved in creating them has an agenda.

17. That makes no sense at all
I know that most people in my generational cohort (I'm 41) are trending towards Obama. yes, McCain does ok with white men, but not by enough to cause this sort of a result. And a tie in the Gen Y demographic is just ludicrous.

19. and Obama leads among older voters, it's younger voters they have McCain ahead with
so the younger voters they got hold of must be nerds.

21. I believe that poll was taken in GOP headquarters that employ old Young Republicans
Young Republicans, especially the ones that lived during the Reagan administration, are the most brainwashed group of saps to ever walk the earth.
