Suggested New Game - The Stupidest Thing Said on MSM Today
Edited on Wed Jun-18-08 01:15 AM by grantcart
Since we are all news junkies and end up listening to an unending turgid nonstop conveyor of banal trivialities, asinine observations, pundit puffery, factual inaccuracies, preposterous pomposity, tedious twaddle, bubbling blatherskite, pretentious paralogisms, and endless vacuous self promotion, we should try to take this pathetic drivel and turn it into a game.

My suggestion is that every day we start a thread and list all of the most idiotic statements related to the race for President made on a regular "news program".

Some basic rules:

1) It cannot be part of the News Stations self promotion, in that case Fox's "Fair and Balanced", CNN's "Best Political Team on Television" and Headline News Beck's "I am a thinker" would always place first second and third.

2) It has to be an original saying. Simply quoting "He can't close the deal" cannot count regardless of how stupid it is after winning 30 contests.

3) Special considerations of merit will be given for statements that are completely ignorant of our constitutional system or are immediately understood by third graders as being "lame, cheesy, or stupid".

4) Television "news" shows only, and no the "view" does not count although its hard to distinguish them sometimes.

5) You have to add it to the thread before Jon Stewart uses it.

Any suggestions on further rules?

My suggestions to start it off are a two-fer from some idiot fashion pundit that CNN had on Anderson Cooper 360 by the name of Randi Kaye. She said,

1. "Asked repeatedly if they are hiring a fashion consultant to remake Michelle Obama the Obama Campaign repeatedly said 'no they were not considering such a move' but I think they mean yes".

2. "The first lady has to strike a balance between commoner and Queen".

1. To tell the truth to find stupid I would have to watch the MSM and
I haven't for about five years now. I do watch Democracy Now and BBC America News. Although BBC American News can be a tad conservative at least they try to be journalistic. For instance they opened their story about Bush visiting England and having a talk with the Queen and Brown with the coffin of a British soldier draped with the Union Jack being unloaded from an airplane who died in Afghanistan. Do we ever get to see the flag draped coffins here?

2. I LIKE your idea. I spend most of my time on DU or checking out stories I've heard somewhere, but
I always have CNN or MSNBC on in the background. I sure have heard some very stupid and ultimately very funny stuff! I think it could be a great addition to DU. The only problem I see is that there would never be a link to prove your story! Unless of course you have that new was of capturing a piece of a TV broadcast! I say we try it for a week and see what happens.

4. Well let's give it a try.
The thing about DU is that it is pretty self enforcing.

Anybody gets too far out of line by inventing stuff we will just send Maddy after them with her frog.

13. "Will Gore's Endorsement Hurt Obama?"
Heard, and also on-screen text, multiple times all over cable teevee today.

Does that count, or do I suck?

15. That would mean that I would have to watch.....
And I'm not gonna give them that satisfaction.

I watch now and then, in order to maintain my sanity.

They are some evil assholes, and they will not be ruining my life
while they lie and make shit up and laugh about it.

17. I have news for you - simply because you don't watch doesn't mean that they stop talking

We either respond or let their idiocy go unchallenged - the best way is to expose and ridicule
