I Don't Think McCain Can Make it to November
He looks ill. I predict he will drop out of the race before the election due to health reasons.

1. If that happens, I wouldn't faint with surprise.
He is not in good health, no matter what he says. His photos speak volumes (and Bush doesn't look any too good, either).

Seriously. I can see how you'd feel that way. Aw, man - what he's putting himself through... He does not look a bit well.

36. In addition to his sickly appearance...
there is something seriously wrong with his left eye. I noticed the droopiness when he gave his green-screen speech and it looks worse now.

If that were the case he would have to be replaced with someone with big name recognition. But, not a booshie.

Big name recognition!

And the experience:
Legal, he's played a District Attorney for years.
Military, he played an Admiral in Hunt for Red October.

7. I don't think so either
But if they wait until the convention, they are going to have a hard time switching gears and getting the new candidate up to speed. As someone else said, it's going to have to be someone with some decent name recognition and also someone who doesn't have high negatives. The first thought I have is Romney, but his Mormonism makes it pretty difficult for him to compete other then in certain states with a high number of Mormons or religious conservatives. The other option would be Huckabee, who does have pretty good numbers but couldn't raise enough money.

17. A lot of Republicans WANT to lose this one.
They figure they need a scapegoat to blame all of GWB's economic and foreign policy mistakes on. Obama will be dealing with the fallout from Bush's disastrous presidency all throughout his term, and Repubs will use those stats to say that Obama caused all the crap he presided over. Then they think they'll find some new Reagan in their ranks that they can run in 2012 and rejuvenate the party.

I think that's why McCain is being allowed to lose this one.

19. I agree completely, and what is more, I think the RNC and Bu$h syndicate . . .
conclude that the Bu$h name will be sufficiently rehabilitated by 2012 to run Jeb. The absolute only thing this administration has been correct about is their estimation of the American public. Look how many times they've gotten over on people in the last eight years.

32. Nah, it may have happened to Kerry though..
The shit was really hitting the fan in 04/05 and it hasn't got any better.. Iraq and gas prices would be pinned on Kerry this election.. History will now call the last 8 years a GOP disaster and this is the best time for change/Obama. Iraq cant get any worse and Obama can take the lead in taking us away from foreign oil needs..

38. I don't think they want to lose, but
I agree that they won't be heartbroken if they do lose, since 2009-2013 will likely have the next president in an even worse spot than Carter was having to clean up the mess of Nixon and Ford ("Whip Inflation Now" anyone?)

39. If they could they would run him in a NY minute
because the ReThugs will try to save the "underticket" in South and the Red states especially after losing those historic seats in Mississippi and Louisiana even after trying to hang Rev. Wright like an albatross around Sen. Obama's neck. The ReThugs know that McCain is not inspiring the Conservative/Christian coalition base and they will lose in a major, historic landslide, even in the South and the only way to salvage seats in Congress is to give McCain the heave-ho and place the Grinch at the top of the ticket to inspire Rush, Hannity, and all the right wing zealots to vote in November.

29. Chimpy looks ill too, but he's still truckin.
Dick Cheney has been on his deathbed for I don't know how many years and he's still running the show. Dennis Hastert retired but he sure looks like death warmed over.

Most Republicans look awful most of the time. It doesn't stop them from perpetrating massive damage on the country and world.

(I'm only saying this because I was sure that Cheney would not be VP in 2004 - but here we are.)

35. ITA. I was thinking the same thing...
It makes he feel uncomfortable watching him. He seems so frail. You know this campaign is taking a physical toll on him.

I felt the same about Bill Clinton during the primary (although, of course, Bill is MUCH more vibrant than McCain is).

You could tell as the months wore on that the campaign was wearing on him. He looked exhausted many times, and I could not help but think what this was doing to his heart.

I thought Bill was an asshat during the primary, but he still has so much to give to the world. It would be nice if he had a chance to rebuild his legacy, which (IMO) suffered during the primary.

Anyway, I wish political parties and candidates would be more realistic about the physical capabilities of their candidates.
