Thank you Senator Clinton

1) For launching an investigation against KBR
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6377018

KBR is about to find out how tenacious you are.

2) Hosting a major fundraiser for Senator Obama
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6377093

Does anyone recall any of the Republican Presidential canidates having fundraisers for McCain. I don't.

Especially gracious given the fact that she has to do further fund raising to erase her own debt

Personally holding a fund raiser for your opponent and handing over your big ticket fund raisers and asking them to give the maximum is not a small step, Senator Clinton is going all in for Senator Obama..

Let's give Senator Clinton the credit she deserves.

13. The KBR thing is great. I donated $10 today.
She could've just gone on vacation immediately like most of Washington in the hot summer months. I'm glad she's staying in touch and taking on tough issues.

36. I don't think that lady really does vacations.
One thing you have to give the Clintons credit for is their willingness to work their butts off.

Compare their hard work with Bush spend ing something like 1/4 of his entire presidency on vacation. They recognize that a public official's job is a job, not just a chance to play dress up and wave at adoring (handpicked) crowds.

37. I don't have much of an income in the summer (I'm an adjunct college lecturer),
Edited on Thu Jun-19-08 08:47 AM by tblue37
but as soon as I start getting paychecks again in the fall, I plan to send some cash to both her and Obama. I will continue to make regular donations to her after the GE, too, to help her retire that debt. My donations will of necessity be fairly small, but they will go out each month during the school year.

I was very frustrated with her kitchen sink attacks during the primaries, but before that I always admired Hillary, and I am glad to admire her again.

I remember reading somewhere that after Stephanopoulos left the Clinton's employ and went to write his book and to become a talking head, he was asked about his feelings toward Hillary. He responded, "I would walk over hot coals for her."

That bothered me during the primaries, because I suspected he couldn't be unbiased, but I have always noticed that people who work closely with Hillary feel intense love and loyalty for her--not the cultlike loyalty of the Bushbots toward Bush, whom they see as some sort of rightwing messiah, but a genuine affection and admiration based on who she really is and what she has accomplished.

I used to think she really would be our first female president. Now I think that she won't, but I would like to see her appointed to the Supreme Court during the Obama administration.

41. Thank you for your support and the lovely post.
Hillary IS a terrific person, it's a pity that she has been vilified equally by the right and the left (as proven during the primary).

I have not given up hope that she could still be president some day in the future. I don't see another woman out there right now who could inspire 18M people to vote for her and who has as fiercely loyal supporters as she does.

I remember last year her mentioning that she was a bit taken back with Bill when she met him because he was larger than life. A person on the stage turned to her and said YOU are also larger than life. Despite her past discomfort with being a private person in a very public position, she has blossomed into a terrific campaigner and has won the respect and admiration of many people. I have read many blogs and heard many people on the radio, who in some cases were not even Democrats, saying that she was spunky, courageous and other adjectives of that nature.

Hillary will have a bright future, of that I'm sure.

Take care!!!

:hi:

11. Thanks, Senator Clinton!
The KBR thing alone is worth donating a few dollars to help her retire her debt. I know many of us were angry during the primaries, and I've never been a big fan of hers over the long-term, but she certainly isn't the enemy either. She and Bill have done alot for the country over the course of their lifetimes and deserve both thanks and respect for that.

23. Donors want to make demands on Obama -- no thanks due
donors want OBAMA to help pay Clinton debt
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080618/ap_on_el_pr/clinton...

From the AP story about the meeting:

"Two people closely involved with Clinton's fundraising said the meeting had taken on added urgency after several of her money "bundlers" complained that they felt their concerns weren't heard during meetings last week with Obama campaign officials in New York and Washington.

Both individuals spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the meeting.

Among other things, the donors want to make sure Obama knows that in order to get their help he needs to help Clinton pay down her campaign debt."

Just more Clinton demands upon Obama.

Nothing to thank Clinton for here.

Senator Obama and the Democratic Party should be focused on fundraising for Congress, Senate, and Presidential races in the fall -- NOT debt incurred when Clinton's campaign was pointless and unwinnable.

24. Hear, hear. But, just out of curiousity...
The campaigns signed a joint-fundraising agreement, right? Does that mean that some of the proceeds of this fundraiser could go towards paying off her campaign debt? FWIW, I would have no problem with that.

32. No they cannot do that the laws for the funds are restricted to the candidate they are raised for
Moreover the GE funds that Hillary raised for herself cannot be used for her Primary debt although they can be used for future campaigns and PACs.

Curious about what would happen to those funds if she were the VP on the GE ticket I called a couple of campaign financing scholars and the FEC - all of them said that the question had never arisen and they had no idea.

33. Are you kidding me?
Where did grantcart say she was in the Senate chamber? You are claiming *others* are being deceptive? When you falsely accuse grantcart of spinning in this thread, then calling grantcart out in an OP, then responding at least 20 times in that OP to all the Obama primary supporters that disagree with you? Are you physically incapable of letting it go? Does your life not have meaning when there isn't a Clinton to bash? I hope others see this harping on a distinction without a difference as what it is. Your concern is noted.

34. Yes, it's not like she has to. She and Bill are very wealthy now - they
could quietly retire and do absolutely nothing if they wanted to. Holding grudges is hard work, I'd rather let it go and stay strong for Obama in the fall. We can use Hillary's help and I am grateful that she is willing to give it.

35. Good for her. She will be a major asset for both the investigations and
the campaign fundraising.

I don't want to see Hillary on the ticket (Clark is my favored VP choice), but I sure would like to see her appointed to the Supreme Court. It would suit her stature, fry the rightwingers, and probably help mollify those who invested so much of their time, energy, and hopes into her campaign. Also, unlike a cabinet post, it would be a lifetime position, and thus would free her from the ability of the RW to undermine her at every turn.

Hillary for the first open SC seat after Obama is sworn in!

Hillary Clinton isn't a one-year old that needs to get a pat on the head and a gold star every time she takes a baby step.
