Poll: Presidential Race A Dead Heat -- In Georgia
n a further sign of just how wide the political playing field is set to be this fall, a new poll finds that Barack Obama may well be able to win Georgia, a state that voted twice for George W. Bush and by healthy margins.

The numbers from InsiderAdvantage: McCain 44%, Obama 43%, within the ±5% margin of error. Some key numbers: Bob Barr, the former right-wing Georgia Congressman turned Libertarian nominee, is getting six-percent support, which otherwise would have probably gone to McCain. Also, InsiderAdvantage estimates that blacks will make up 29% of the electorate, up from 25% in 2004 exit polling.

1. McCain's camp has got to be very worried
Especially since this poll comes right after finding out that Obama opted out of public financing.

20. With the McCain-style economy collapsing around our ears?
He sure as hell better be worrying. If Georgia becomes a swing state, he is toast.

2. Barr will make a difference in a few states
and Georgia will be one of them. We may have to send ole' Bob a nice big wet kiss after the election if he helps Obama win a couple of states.

6. "InsiderAdvantage estimates that blacks will make up 29% of the electorate, up from 25% in 2004."
That number is number is going to be much higher than a 4% increase. The AA population in Georgia is huge. The AA turnout during the primary(at my polling place) was very impressive.

This is all very good news.

7. If there is high turnout in parts of the Metro Atlanta area
Mainly Fulton and Dekalb, plus a positive showing in the Savannah area, then Obama wins this state. I think Georgia will go blue this time around.

16. I grew up in Decatur: nice, progressive, McKinney's hometown...
There are a lot more of us than they are reporting. I think that black voter number is going to increase two-fold!! We just need to work hard registering people. I'm telling my entire family to get busy.

9. I can't even say how deliciously PLEASED I am to hear this.
I am in one of those Metro Atlanta counties with a high percentage of black citizens, Clayton County. Hopefully the Obama Fellows and United for Change programs here will get people out to the polls. I have never been fired up like this about politics before. I saw a woman at Publix getting out of a car with Obama stickers all over it and stopped her to talk. She also told me about Democratic Underground.

I figured here in Georgia, it being freeper central, would be a lost cause. Now I'm ready to rock and roll.

Woohoooo!!

13. I've been like an evangelical christian in that.
Everywhere I go, the grocery, a haircut, the gas station, anywhere. Instead of "are you saved?" I'm asking "are you registered to vote". I went by the library and picked up a stack of voter registration forms and keep at least 3 on me at all times. I'm driving my husband NUTS! :)

21. Bad news for Mark Penn.
If Obama doesn't need what the Clintons are selling he might have to cut back on the fancy call girls.
