Roll Call!! Post your Republican friends, family, etc who have confirmed they will vote for Obama:
I thought this would be a good survey type thread for all of us to get together and weigh in who and what kinds of Republicans have told us they will be voting for Obama. I have a feeling that enough of these voters could be key especially in helping Barack win the swing states.

Be straightforward, and as a parameter let's go with friends, family, and acquaintances who have definitively said they will vote for Obama

Include what state they live in, and a little background on them, and why they've said they're voting for Obama

* * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I'll start:

My cousin, a mid 40s male who lives in Boca Raton, Florida is a lifelong Republican who follows politics casually. He's originally from Fort Wayne Indiana, from an old old Republican line (almost that entire side of my family including my grandparents are conservative from generations back). He's never voted a Dem for President, but told me he likes Obama because he thinks Barack is honest and a very good guy. He also doesn't like the war and is worried about the economy (he works as a charter pilot).

My girlfriend's mom, a late 50s female who lives in Long Beach, California is also a lifelong Republican. She and her husband (a retired Pastor who is voting for McCain), are immigrants from Southeast Asia, and have always been very conservative not only because Reagan helped them come to America but also because of religion etc. She's voting for Obama because on the one hand she doesn't like the direction the country's been going in and on the other because she does not think McCain is a trustworthy character.

3. Father and brother in PA.
A complete shock, they want change more than they care about Obama but we'll take the two votes and be happy with it. I don't care why they are voting for him, just that they are.

5. My Father and Mother
Both were big Republicans. They now call themselves Bush Democrats. They said Bush opened their eyes and they will never vote Republican again.

My dad's comment on hearing his Republican friends is..."god I can't believe I used to sound that dumb"

6. My brother and his wife in Colorado and a sister in Virginia are all
voting for Obama this time. My sister is one of those that only occasionally votes and doesn't care about politics, but she's motivated this year. My brother has always been hard-core Republican.

20. come to think of it, I don't have any repuke "friends" either ; - )
though I don't judge family, colleagues or acquaintances automatically for the affiliation either. examples redound in this thread of well-meaning conservative to moderate-leaning Americans who don't fully 'agree' with us ideologically politically or whatever, but prove their head or heart is or means to be in the right place by not automatically voting according to party identity but in response to the obvious bad direction this country has been going in.

but in this case, anyone who supports bush, or extends that to a staunch vote for McCain, is no friend of mine ;)

12. I know of at least 12 in NC (assuming that HRC stays the hell out of his campaign and cabinet)
Having a Clinton either on the ticket or in a large leadership role is a HUGE dealbreaker for these folks. The general sentiment is that they would vote for Barr if that became the case. I sent Obama $2,300 in the primary, but am holding off sending another dime will this shakes out myself. I truly hope the Dems realize how toxic she is, and don't fuck up the GE by putting her on the ticket.

13. My business partner/friend and her husband and her mother (that's 3)!
They all live in NC and voted for * twice. They are all sick of him and what he's done and are on board with a vengeance! Even donated to Obama!

Also, when I worked the polls for the primary here in NC, an older white gentleman (looked like a farmer) came up to our Orange County Democrats table and asked me to help re-register him to change his party affiliation because he was "sick of this crap." Made my week! Bless his heart.

15. My mom and dad
typically vote conservative. Both are voting for Obama this time.

And this sixth-out-of-seven child is very proud of them. They're in their 70s, dad's health has taken a hit this year, and they're paying attention. My son volunteers for Obama, and mom (they live in Nebraska) asked him to bring back some Obama car stickers. He did, and they put one on the family van immediately.

This is our year, people. Feel the change?

Yes we can!

18. My Dad. Although he isn't really a Rep, but voted for Bush twice.
My dad has been a registered Democrat all his life but rarely votes for Dems. :eyes: He has voted for Carter, Reagan, whoever the socialist candidate was in '84, Dukakis, Perot, Clinton, Bush, and then Bush again. He is voting for Obama this year.

And don't ask me how you go from voting for Reagan in 80 to a socialist in 84. I don't get it either.

21. Nevada - 4 Republican family members for Obama, so far
3 switched parties to support Obama in our caucus and are still adamant Obama supporters. One remained Republican but plans on voting for Obama in the GE. His wife, a Repub also, will likely vote how he votes, so that might make 5 total. I'm still working on the other Repub BIL.
