figuratively speaking, of course. But, it is of the same consequence. Maliki is not liked by the majority of the Iraqi people. They think he is a toadie of the Americans. Maliki understands that his biggest dilemma is the same as the Republicans that are running for re-election in this country. He is too close to George W Bush. It seems that Presidente Bush is not only a poison name in this country, but also in Iraq.
Maliki also understands that Barack Obama is very popular in America. He would like to get some of that sweet popularity rubbed in his direction. He knows that George W Bush will soon be gone. Barack Obama is his best ticket to winning his own scheduled election in October. Perhaps Dubya can somehow convince him to change the date on their elections, just in case McCain might win? Wouldn't that be best for him? If he can schedule the Iraqi elections after the American elections in November, he will have a much stronger hand to play? That is Dubya's hand.
