Obama on MTP: very high marks from me.
He was on for the full hour. About 40 minutes of gave and take with Brokaw, who's no Obama fan (yet).

Obama was terrific.

2. I agree..
Obama was great, he appeared knowledgeable, decisive, powerful without appearing combative. and it would have been easy to sound combative, I thought the questions were relatively negative-sounding. ie--he read 3 reviews of Obama's Berlin speech and they were all negative. Obama rose above it and chuckled "there WERE some good reviews...you just failed to read those"... I thought that was great.

4. I'll watch the replay since I was out to breakfast - but why would Barack agree to...
...an interview with Brokaw, when it's so clear that he's a water carrier for the other side?

5. Because...
1. It's MTP and like it or not, it's THE talk show that people watch.

2. Obama's not afraid to take on Brokaw, or anyone else. Some of Brokaw's questions were very tough, as expected, but Obama handled them very well.

Just wish there were some decent journalists left.

7. Glad to hear it
I didn't see it, but my mom said she thought he was stammering too much, which affected her confidence in him. (Yeah, I know--:eyes:--but I figured other people might think the same.)

9. Sorry, but that's ridiculous.
Watch the interview yourself, and then ask your mom when she thought Obama was stammering.

15. I intend to
I want to get a feel for how "the folks on the fence" are perceiving things. My mom despises McCain, so I can't figure out why she'd be critical of Obama. She knows he's the better candidate by a mile (or two or a hundred). I'm guessing, without having seen it yet, that what she called "stammering" and appearing uncertain was his carefully choosing his words so his critics didn't jump on something that was less than perfectly worded. And fatigue--the man must be exhausted by now.

16. Cool.
How's things in Rochester, by the way. I lived in Fairport for a few years, way back in the 70's.

21. Things are kinda weird here in WNY
Kodak is imploding a lot of buildings at Kodak Park in Greece; it's strange to watch the monster shrink. There's a certain amount of flailing, trying to keep young people in the area and not really tweaking to why they leave. Lots of silly ideas to revitalize downtown, yet Midtown Plaza just closed, inspiring loads of nostalgia. It's going to be knocked down and a corporate headquarters is going up in its place. Winters have been pretty mild the past few years, which is the weirdest thing of all.

Still, it's not all bad. Housing is incredibly inexpensive compared with the rest of the country, and the area hasn't really been hit by foreclosures. Culture is blossoming, with lots of arts and such. It's a good place to live. :hi:

24. Thanks for the update!
Midtown Plaza torn down? Wow that's a stunner. I used to work for Xerox and spent a lot of time across the way in the Plaza.

But glad to hear the positives. Especially the mild winters.

22. Exactly
I'd much rather have a president who thinks and speaks carefully instead of just talking out his ass all the time.

19. He does say "uh" a lot, sometimes several times in a (long) sentence.
I'm getting more used to it, and I wouldn't call it "stammering." He's pausing for a split second to think of the exact wording he wants. I don't know if silence then would help. Possibly it's more noticeable when he does it speaking extemporaneously since he doesn't do it when giving a speech, reading from a teleprompter. As I said, I'm getting used to it, but I suspect he tends to do this a bit more often than most politicians.
