I am starting to change my mind about Gov. Sebelius as a VP pick.
I have argued recently that if he picked Gov. Sebelius, Obama would risk enraging Hillary supporters. But now that I have heard her speak, I am so impressed that I think she could actually be the best thing that could happen for Obama. As a Democrat who voted for Hillary in my CT primary, I am beginning to see that choosing another woman as VP might not have the bad effect I thought it might have. In fact, it may be salubrious.

My change of heart also has been as a result of Obama's trip. I was left with the impression that he is already a world leader and a game changer and he has proved it. As such, he has been transformed and so has his candidacy. Now I feel that his candidacy would be enhanced by a woman of the intellect and grace of Sebelius. She speaks with the same kind of confidence and sincerity that he does and she has Hillary's ability to explain the need for domestic policy changes with the same air of confidence but without Hillary's unfortunate flubs. I am certainly not slamming Hillary here, but I think a new day has dawned. We must get beyond the past fights and bitterness. I ask myself the question "Wasn't this why I wanted a female president all along?"

Some of you on this board have come to this conclusion a while back. I salute you.

8. She has midwestern speech but that might not be a bad thing.
She seems very no nonsense and being a white woman with prematurely gray hair doesn't hurt. And she's smart. I can see them campaigning together, complementing each other.

3. I have gone the other way. 2 weeks ago I was all for her, now I think Bayh is the way to go
Not that she isn't extraordinary, she is.

I am just thinking that Romney will be McGaffe's pick so we need someone who can help in the Midwest/rustbelt battlegrounds.

9. Obama has said he's not choosing a running mate
based on Geo-politico.

We'll see if he chooses someone who shares his vision for America.

4. We need a strong VP.
Sebelius has the personality of a Sunday School teacher. It's not just about getting Kansas. The VP has to be someone who people feel can step in and be president if it should become necessary.

10. Well, I don't see the "Sunday school teacher" but even so a bit of that won't hurt.

Her take on the foreign policy of Cheney and Rumsfeld was pretty straightforward and strong. It comes at the end of this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qzDHKy68ls.

5. And many of us in Kansas don't want her chosen as VP
We have battles here and we need her to continue to help us fight the extreme right.

7. After hearing Obama on meet, I incline to believe he will pick her or Kaine.

Obama practically said that he will pick a VP that he can work with and not for who can help in the polls. (My interpretation of the question in the interview.)

12. Sebelius for the Senate in 2010
I am thinking that Kathleen will run for the Senate seat that Brownback has said he is giving up in 2010. Her term ends in 2010 and she cannot run again as Governor. She is so popular in Kansas that I can see her taking that seat away from any Republican candidate. Just my opinion.

11. I think Obama already knows who his VP choice will be,
he's only waiting for the moment to announce it. I hope he has kept this to himself since a secret may only be kept by even 2 people providing one of them is dead.

16. Yeah, I get that same feeling about him. He looked like he "knew" who it was going to be
today in the interview at the Unity Conference.

13. K&R--"A new day has dawned"
Well said.

I think the "No woman unless Hillary" contingent are an insignificant number, and any who really care about gender representation should be very happy with Sebelius.

15. One Thing That Would be Absolutely Great About the Pick
is that it would a confident in-your-face move, a message that "I don't need to shore up any weaknesses in defense or foreign relations. I can pick who I think the best person."

17. Yes, I think that was the major point of his trip, to do just that.
As the memory of the past primary campaign fades and in view of Obama's spectacular trip, we should understand that this guy is absolutely commanding. This is a new day and it is wonderful.
