As they've argued over the Celeb TV ad that Republican John McCain's presidential campaign released Wednesday (best known for its use of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton), aides from both major contenders' campaigns have made a number of charges.

One thing that McCain campaign chief Rick Davis and others who work for the Republican senator have said is that it was Democrat Barack Obama's team that broadcast the first "negative" TV ad of the general election campaign.

Here's the July 8 post we did about that Obama ad. As you'll see, we wrote that it was a response to an earlier ad from the Republican National Committee. And we noted that the McCain team had previously released a Web ad that portrayed Obama as a "Dr. No" on energy issues.

Whether an ad is "negative" or "comparative" or just informational is of course in the of the beholder.

So we'll lay them out chronologically and then you can vote on who went "negative" first.
