I heard this in Obama's speech on his Energy Policy which was featured on CNN...
He was talking about bi-partisan legislation on our Energy Policy where he said "working with Democrat and Republican lawmakers...."

Is this something new that Obama is using? Referring to "Democratic" lawmakers as "Democrat" lawmakers?

It really popped out. His speech will be all over "You Tube" and probably posted here and on his website. Listen for it...it's about halfway through.

It really bothered me...but maybe it's a new tactic to fool the Repugs? Use their own language?

1. It was just a mistake.
It looked to me like he paused, trying not to get tripped up.

2. I wouldn't read much into it
Unless it becomes a habit. He gives so many speeches that I can forgive the occasional misstatement.

3. it was in his prepared speech so I think it's deliberate. I also think he's goofing on the repukes
as you say, using their own language and "so what?"

4. You may not have noticed but Obama frequently clips off the last
syllable when he talks. Perhaps you should listen to a few more of his speeches and you'd see the pattern.

5. I don't think he meant anything by it.
We're the only ones who would even read remotely into that and we're voting for him anyway.

Christ, folks, the Chicken Little sentiment around here is annoying.

6. He kind of faltered while say it, so I think it was just a slip.
No deeper meaning than that.

11. CNN just made that clip their feature of his speech on Blitzer's 4:00 roundup...
so it will be seen by many. Assume it will appeal to Repugs and that's why he did it and why CNN picked that particular snip of the speech to show.

22. Blitzer gave the "before and after" of the clip. It wasn't a "clipped syllable..."
I watched it twice. Obama strategized just the correct clip if Blitzer/CNN picked that one out of Obama's comprehensive speech as the one for the "Talking Points."

15. Considering Obama's latest cave-ins, I'm not surprised that you questioned it...
As poster Lorien reminded us yesterday, quoting Will Rogers: "Given a Republican and a Democrat who acts like one, the people will choose the Republican every time."

I'm not sure Barack gets that.

18. I think there's a possibility that it's a "clever" strategy....not sure...but thinking so...
I had some posters who are just "clueless" respond with attacks..but, I'm thinking he might be onto something beating Repugs at their own game.

For us "Progressives" seeing Obama do this gives us "hives," but...we have to hope his campaign is being run better than what we had with Kerry/Gore.

I'll give him some "benefit of doubt" on this one. Even though some of his seeming to "cave" is starting to get to me...I still can see some Strategy, there...given that we are up agains an "ENTRENCHED FORCE OF EVIL!" One must do what one must...but we have to hope they don't take his soul in what he's forced to do. OUR JOB begins when he is inaugurated. Then his "feet must be held to fire."

I can go with some "strategy" that makes me sick...until then, though. We are up against what we are. We've gotta hope we can at least get "that foot in the Oval Office." ;-( Grim choices.........

16. I thought his speech today was labored and that his delivery weak

I think Senator Obama has been working too hard and its begining to show. Not only is he doing 3 events a day and all of the other things that he does he also is doing fundraisers at night and also making phone calls to raise money for the convention.

It appears that he is really pushing himself to get as much done before his vacation as possible.

The guy is all over the place.

25. I think he has very "well-rounded" advisors on both sides and thinks carefully before he speaks...
His Campaign so far has veered him through the rough rocks and he hasn't crashed. I feel this was a way to attempt to "turn tables on RW." But as a "Progressive Dem...it was very disconcerting to see him use the word "Democrat" when so many of us have used that as an ATTACK against RW and DINO's.
