At some point we need to tell the Clinton's and their die hard holdouts to "GET IN LINE"
"Go ahead, fall in love, be for somebody," Clinton said. "But when the primary's over, let's fall in line and bring the White House back to our party."--Bill Clinton at Tom Harkin's Steak Fry, 9/13/03

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/13/clinton.iowa/

It time for Bill Clinton to head his own words.

I have tried to be respectful and hopeful that the Clinton's would do their part to heal the party. I would much rather have Hillary pleading with her husband and her holdouts to "get in line" than to have her out on the campaign trail, ideally I would like both but it her responsibility to talk to the PUMA's and others about the need to rally behind Obama.

I DON'T WANT TO REFIGHT THE PRIMARY, I WANT TO MOVE ON BUT THIS IS ON THE CLINTONS, NOT OBAMA

It is so damned easy to take part in a photo op with Obama and do appearances, but I'm more concerned with the real and substantive actions of the Clintons, what they are telling friends and how they are conducting themselves behind the scenes.

Now we shall see if that applies to he and Hillary or just the little people.

If you disagree that infighting at this point in the campaign is harmful, then I guess you're pretty happy right about now. Enjoy.

But behind the united front, says an adviser, "it's not a great relationship, and it's probably not going to become one." In private conversations, associates say, Clinton remains skeptical that Obama can win in the fall. That's a sentiment some other Democrats believe is not just a prediction but a wish, because it would prove her right about his weaknesses as a general-election candidate and possibly pave the way for her to run again in 2012.

Does she want real unity?
What does this move buy her in the long term?
How is this going to help Obama get the hold outs?

Why does it seem like either Clintons' words correspond with GOP moves? Or is this about taking pot shots at Obama which cost them little to nothing?

I have no idea if Bill Clinton is speaking at the convention. If he is, what witty remarks will he have about Obama leading on DAY 1?

If he wants to then fine. If he doesn't want to it's no big deal. He's a big boy and he can make up his own mind.

And as for PUMA, it is nothing more than a scam run by a long time GOP supporter.

So there really is no need to rehash this.

27. Did you freak out when Jesse Jackson's name was on the ballot?
Hillary and Bill ARE supporting Obama. They have done everything he has asked. They will continue to campaign for him wherever they are asked to.

As for the Convention: You realize it is completely fucking normal for them to do this right? For her to be forced not to WOULD be seen as a slap by her supporters who now support Obama. Obama is still going to win. He is STILL going to be the nominee.

Obama came out with a joint statement yesterday on this. He is all for it. Why not follow his lead instead of piling on and forcing a good chunk of DU to be on the defensive?

Let's focus on stomping McCain and getting the Obama's into the WH. I'd really like to do that, and to find some joy in doing that. But every time myself and other start getting to that point we have a week long stomp-hillary-and-bill marathon here that just leaves a nasty and bitter taste in our mouths.

I would feel the same if it were any of our candidates being piled on like this. The recent Edwards bashing also pisses me off.

Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 07:48 AM by Marrah_G
No one is talking about a brokered convention. No one is trying to take anything away from Obama. Her name will be on the first ballot.

Exhibit A: Shirley Chisholm, the first African American and the first woman to run for the top spot of a major party received 152 votes on the first ballot and during the roll call in 1972 and she did not even win a primary state!

Exhibit B: Jesse Jackson 1984.

Hillary's campaign was every bit as historic as Obama's was which is one reason it has been so emotionally charged. It will not have any effect on Obama's nomination to allow Hillary and her supporters the recognition of having a roll call vote. It might go a long way to promoting party unity.

33. The Clinton's are in line and yes, you do want to refight the primaries.
Hillary has made appearances with Obama and on his behalf with more rallies scheduled for this weekend. She has endorsed Obama and urged her supporters to do the same. The media is trying to manufacture a rift with Bill which doesn't exist. I'm sure that his appearances on Obama's behalf are being carefully orchestrated for maximum benefit.

The media never misses a chance to highlight controversy, even if they have to manufacture it, because they would lose their audience without it. As far as PUMA is concerned, most of these people are not true Hillary supporters, but using her as an excuse not to support Obama. Hillary is not responsible for PUMA and she has stressed to her supporters the need to get behind Obama and defeat John McCain.

There's a time to freak out but I don't think that it's now. Granted, it's annoying to still see some of the bitterness still on display as it always leads to weirdness and is just counterproductive when there's still a lot we have to do. But for now, there's no confirmation that Hillary's behavior is anything less of supportive. There's only hearsay and innuendo-- although Bill's behavior REALLY does not help. I can concede that Hillary can't really control her followers now since I think the PUMA people are all caught up in the "injustice" of it all that they probably are beyond the point of reason but I do hope that Hillary can help prevent any further Bill episodes. It is detrimental to party unity, Hillary's standing as well as Bill's dignity as a former US President. Not to mention the drama it brings to a presidential campaign that already has enough to handle with McCain and the media allied against it.

I have to say though that if there's ANY confirmation at all, Hillary would probably be immolating any future chances of a bright political career. So I'm really betting on the hope that she's smart enough to see this. After all, Ted Kennedy's not a bad role model to consider for her.

Their supporters are almost all in line. The PUMA's are a good example of why you must be careful whipping up the mob, because while they might pick up their torches and pitchforks on cue, they don't necessarily put them down when you tell them to. There is power in militancy and contrarianism, and the PUMA's include many who are reveling in that power.
