The VP Selection: Are There Any Independent VPs Worth Consideration?
Given the way the race is shaping up, I think our biggest challenges are getting Dems to the polls and swaying independents.
While I see some merit to reaching out to a Republican VP, I think the cons outweigh the pros. But a VP who is a registered independent might really make an impression.
I believe there are more people registering an Independent than any other group. I think it would bolster Obama's message of being willing to work across the aisle/change. But it wouldn't run inherently counter to the Dem platform.
Is there anyone beyond Bloomberg who Obama might be considering?
1. Obama must choose a V.P. who is already WELL KNOWN and easily seen as PRESIDENTIAL
It is hard to see a big roster of "independent" politicians who could gain that type of stature given the current political system. You basically have Lieberman and Bloomberg, and perhaps Lincoln Chafee.
