We weren't "supposed" to be in certain places during Desert Storm, either,
but we were.

My husband was in the 1st Cav division, based out of Ft. Hood, TX during Desert Storm. Our troops were not supposed to be in certain areas (southern Iraq? need to verify that) during the push to get Iraqi forces out of Kuwait. But they were. The 1st Cav was there.

I remember vividly Gen. Shwarsztkopf (sorry I CANNOT spell his name) giving a press conference showing all the major divisions on a big map and moving them around to show what they had been doing.

FIRST CAV WAS TOTALLY MISSING.

1st Cav is HUGE. Or at least it was then. Probably still is. For them to just not be on the map at all, I was baffled. I KNEW my husband was there, so why didn't they talk about 1st Cav? Not a SINGLE mention of that HUGE division.

When he came back he said it was because they were places they weren't supposed to be.

He also won two Purple Hearts. And is a passionate Democrat.

It's a damn good thing he has no political ambitions.

1. My brother's best friend was in Cambodia...
He was a helicopter pilot, and talked about incursions into Cambodia. When I said I didn't understand (because we weren't supposed to be there, after all), he just smiled and said, "Don't believe everything you hear." This was in 1970, I think.

2. Right, but that was found out later.
I don't think anybody questions that we were in Cambodia in 1970, maybe even 1969 (which is when O'Neill was in Vietnam, I think).

Lots of things were lied about and revealed later, but I don't think we've got proof that boats went in in December 1968 and that's what's needed.

3. American soldiers fought against the bolsheviks in Russia in 1918-19
They weren't supposed to be there either. You can do a google search on "polar bears" and Archangel Russia to learn more about them.

5. The only relevant questions are : Did Saddam have WMDs or not?
Did our soldiers committ abuse and atrocities on Iraqi prisoners including women and children?

Viet Nam questions are really not relevant to what is happening right now. Bush was not in Viet Nam but he sure as hell was in the WH and ordered the Iraqi invasion and is therefore singly responsible for whatever has happened there and is happening now.
