LOL! Keyes calls for Americans to carry machine guns...
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 08:43 AM by chiburb
Snip:

Declaring "the front line of the war against terror once again involves the citizens," Republican Alan Keyes said Tuesday he believes the U.S. Constitution grants properly trained private individuals the right to own and carry machine guns.

Keyes said he supports a system in which guns would be treated similarly to automobiles, with people being required to undergo different levels of training before they would be allowed to own and carry various sorts of weapons.

"I always remind -- even people who support the Second Amendment -- that it has two parts: the right to keep and bear" arms, Keyes said. " 'Bear' means to carry, to carry around. . . . I think it has been proven empirically that . . . allowing law-abiding citizens this access to conceal-carry actually reduces crime."

"Have you ever been to Israel?" Keyes asked the reporter. "Because if you've ever been to Israel, you wouldn't ask that question. And in the midst of terrifying dangers, you walk around the streets of Israel and you see every other person carrying arms and Uzis and so forth and so on, and believe me, you do not feel less safe on that account."

(Of course the Sun-Times continues to air this nutjob's views... Is Conrad Black in prison yet?)

5. oy vay - he's a front man for Uzi
only explanation.

Fine, Keyes. We'll also begin legislation for CUI (carrying while under the influence). You see, drunk people aren't allowed to drive because they are a menace. They shouldn't be allowed to carry arms either while under the influence of likka, drugs, or just plain inbred stupidity.

Oh boy, I can already see little league now.

12. I love this guy!!! Every day it is something new and each
comment is guaranteed to be more hilarious than the last. Personally, I'm waiting for him to push to bring back slavery. :)

Does Obama have to pay Keyes to campaign for him? I'll send him money if he needs it to keep up the payments.

BTW, you can legally own a machine gun. It takes a lot of money to purchase one legally and is subject to a lot of hassles, but you can do it if you can meet the criteria.

14. Keyes is a main stream republican.
The moderate republicans are just fooling themselves that Keyes does not represent the republican party. We need to get some friendly media to start asking Bush questions about Keyes' positions.

15. Alan Keyes loves publicity.
He knows he has NO CHANCE of beating Obama. But he loves attention, and he gets it by saying outrageous things, like promoting machine guns. You can be sure that he is taking a handsome chunk of the money that gullible Republicans are donating to his campaign, and paying himself a handsome "salary". Keyes did the same thing when he ran for senator in Maryland. The FEC looked into it, and gave him a pass on it. When the election is over, Keyes will be much wealthier, and he will likely return to Maryland. IMO he can do this as much as he wants to. He is taking away money that would otherwise go to more serious Republican candidates, and showing the Republicans to be fools!

16. nothing like Chicago Cabrini Green area with a bunch of Uzis
cool. I can see it now. Lots of law-abiding citizens preemptively attacking the Korean and Indian owned shops. They will "liberate the employees" of the filthy lucre. They may even send some to their eternal reward early.

What a great idea, Mr. Keyes. Why didn't you run on this platform in your home state, homeboy?

17. Talk about shooting yourself in the... uh...
One would think the republicans would be the LAST ones to want a populace armed with heavy weapons of human destruction. That's how governments get overthrown. Then again, maybe they're just figuring that their loyal freepers will get their guns first and declare open season on us goddamn homo-humpin' libruls.

Maybe we should re-examine the legality of kevlar while we're at it.

18. Infantrymen carry rocket launchers, grenade launchers and hand grenades.
His cohort in this article also maintains an individual should be exempt when using an illegal firearm for self defense. He's been on local radio saying this is natural law, the right to self-preservation. Of course he's anti-choice, women don't have that right to self-preservation apparently. These people show the extremes these people will go to push the RW 3Gs agenda.

It seems the only explanation. I'm just glad that for once the dumbest and most alienating comments are coming from a fringe righty.
