Any help with this LTEE please
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 11:25 AM by TNOE
I'm very busy today but became infuriated when I read the letters to the editor today over this cartoon:

http://borgman.enquirer.com/weekly/daily_html/2004/08/082404borgman.html

And today's letters: http://enquirer.com/editions/2004/08/25/editorial_edlet.html

So far: I believe we have to limit letters to 120 words, or close thereto.

Bush and his administration owes an apology not only to the National Guard, but to every single Veteran and all those currently serving. Only a person who chose not to serve and then skipped out on his own cushy guard duty would have the gaul to attack a person who did go. This from the “support or troops” crowd. Imagine any Iraqi soldier coming back now only to be told his wounds and awards are meritless because they didn’t “bleed enough”. This is the sleaziest of all campaigns, especially while we are at a needless war of his causing. Their involvement is obvious now with two Bush camp resignations. Numerous Vets are suffering all over again due to the Swift Vet Liars (lies which are now proven).

1. Not "Iraqi soldier"
Imagine any Iraqi soldier coming back now only...

Just "soldier" or "American soldier"

4. spelling and grammar correction:
"Bush and his administration owes" seems awkward, but I can't quite put my finger on why. I should know this, but I don't  Anyone, help out here

"Veteran" should not be capitalized

"gaul" should be "gall"

"go. This from the" could/should read "go, yet we are seeing this from the"

"at a needless war of his causing" could/should read "needlessly in a war Bush promoted" or some such

"Their involvment is obvious now" could/should read "Their involvment in the Swift Boat Smear is obvious now"

Use the changes/suggestions at will :)

5. A point that is bugging me
that might fit into your letter, but it might not . . .

We are at war. We should be encouraging young people to join the service. Or at least presenting it as a patriotic thing to do or something. We have people who have been in Iraq much longer than they should have been there, and the better we encourage enlistment, the more we help them come home in a reasonable amount of time.

But NO . . . what are Bush & Co. doing? Their lies are discouraging people from joining the service. How is spreading lies about the military that discourage people from joining the military supporting the troops?

To save a few words, you can eliminate the ones in boldface.

Also, try "his wounds didn't bleed enough for him to deserve a Purple Heart." Also, see if you can work in "Would you like to tell a returning veteran of the Iraq war."

7. Tried it again - better or worse?

Bush owes an apology not only to the National Guard, but to every Veteran and all currently serving. Only a person who chose not to serve and then skipped out on his own cushy guard duty would have the gall to attack a person who did go. This from the “support our troops or else” crowd. Imagine a soldier now coming back only to be told his wounds and awards are meritless because they didn’t “bleed enough”. This is the most disgusting of campaign ads, especially since the Vets involved have all been proven to be liars. The Bush camp’s involvement is now obvious based on the two resignations this week. We are in a needless war with soldiers dying every day, thanks to Bush. How dare they slime any Vet. Thanks to the Swift Vet Liars, numerous Vets are having to relive and suffer all over again.

Can't waste too much time as they no doubt WON'T print it!
