The GOP platform fights
Since the Dems were fairly all on message at
the Dem Convention-getting Bush the hell out, it
will be interesting to see what comes out of
the GOP platform fights today...the Log Cabin
Republicans are adament that there won't be an
amendment to the Constitution about marriage
and the pro-choice Republicans are equally
adament that the tent is large enough to include
them.
Let's see who wins...the small, but bullish
rightwingnut fundies or the real conservative
wing of the conservative party.

This platform will be worth highlighting....

1. Charlie Black on Olberman...
He's clearly nervous about anyone (read: Republicans)
knowing exactly what's in their party platform.

This is the time to ask Republicans what they
believe in and if the party reflects their beliefs.

Since Bush was selected we have:

larger government not smaller as they believe in
no surplus and huge deficits,
not really a free market since some industries get help from gov.
outsourced jobs,
more unemployed,
higher consumer costs,
etc.

The Log Cabin Republicans are NOT happy with the platform
language but their president said they believe in
traditional conservative issues, (which are non-existent now).
It sounded like it Republican gays and lesbians won't be
voting for Bush/Cheney again. Dems could address this group
better.

Initial Republican Party Platform Pro-Life on Abortion, Stem Cell Research

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
August 25, 2004

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- Despite attempts by activists to change the GOP platform to support abortion and embryonic stem cell research, the initial version of the document supports President Bush's pro-life positions on the subjects.

A draft of the platform, shown to delegates last night in advance of hearings today, retains the longtime stance in favor of a Human Life Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would afford legal protection for unborn children throughout pregnancy.

The platform language also contains a plank supporting President Bush's August 2001 policy prohibiting taxpayer funding of any new embryonic stem cell research and supporting the use of adult stem cells as a more ethical and effective alternative.

Jim Bopp, a leading pro-life attorney who is a member of the platform committee, told LifeNews.com that the platform looks "real good" so far.

(Gary "I flip for you" Bauer likes this platform too) You
have to wonder how Gary does it....

GOP Passes Anti-Gay Platform

(New York City) The Republican Party platform committee Wednesday endorsed a strong denouncement of same-sex marriage, calling for an amendment to the Constitution to prevent gay couples from any form of recognition.

The gay-rights group Log Cabin Republicans, abortion-rights group Republicans for Choice and the Republican Youth Majority have proposed a much more expansive "unity" plank. (story

Log Cabin's Christopher Barron was livid after the panel endorsed the first-ever call for a constitutional gay-marriage ban in a GOP platform and went beyond that to oppose legal recognition of any same-sex unions.

"You can't craft a vicious, mean-spirited platform and then try to put lipstick on the pig by putting Rudy Giuliani and Arnold Schwarzenegger on in prime time," he said.

5. Cheney was clearly political in his statement re: gays
Cheney's not going to lose political face
or credibility with conservatives and had
something to gain by talking about his daughter
(wow, he's got a heart) but he clearly
used that opportunity in Iowa to appease Republican
gays and lesbians.

Gee Dick and we thought you really cared.
