(temporarily at least) by Kerry's bold move of taking this fight right to his doorstep. This is priceless (and not to mention hilarious) to watch.

If Bush was a real leader, he would have sent Laura to the gate to greet Max and Jim, offered them some lemonade to comfort them in the miserable Texas heat and welcomed them to meet the Dim Son. After the 'meeting' they could have come out together and 'agreed to disagree' and Max and Jim would have accomplished their mission and Bush would have at least looked as though he had some strength of character. Now he looks like a small, petty, thinskinned man who always sends others to fight his battles and do his dirty work.

Bush had walked out, extended a hand to Cleland and accepted the letter? He could have then stolen the spotlight, said he wanted to take the opportunity to clarify that when he said "that ad" he meant he condemned that ad, and come out looking like the good guy to the undecided.
