I supported Hillary in the primaries, but do not think that she should be the VP
However, there are many on DU, including many Obama primaries supporters who think that she should.

So what? Yes, the primaries are over but the VP search is very much on. And many DUers have expressed their support for different contenders, including Hillary. I think that she has very good assets that she can bring to the ticket.

So if you still hate Hillary so much (perhaps even wish that we lose so that you can continue with nurturing this obsession) can you at least debate the merits of whether she should or should not be the VP?

I think that the ones who say that "the primaries are over" - often accompanied with an expletive - are the ones who continue to fight the primaries. Otherwise, why not debate the issue on the merit?

2. Pros and cons:
Pros:

- Popular/Unifies the party
- She's a good debater and policy wonk
- Bill would jump at the chance to help the campaign
- She can persistently attack McCain and his VP
- Makes the ticket a double-barrier breaker

Cons:

- She is also a senator
- Her primary ads have helped McCain
- She comes from a safely blue Northeastern state
- She turns off many independents/motivates Republicans

She's not my first choice, but I'll take whomever Obama chooses -- not to mention, she is miles better than some of the other VP choices (Bayh, Nunn, etc.).

8. Thank you for an excellent details
One point that can be interpreted in different ways is that her attacks ads help McCain.

The RNC would have come with the same attacks regardless. However, for the Obama campaign to have faced these during the primaries prepared (one hopes) the campaign to be ready and to respond. This was missing in 2004 when Kerry sailed so quickly to the nomination.

That they show Hillary in the ads: I doubt that this would convince any "undecided" voters.

10. I will give her credit for toughening him up for the GE.
She was already a strong opponent, but particularly compared to McCain, she looks even tougher.

And though I didn't like her use of Reverend Wright against Obama, I am glad that it came out in the primaries, where it seemed to have mostly deflated since then.

3. I supported Obama in the primaries and would have no problems
with Hillary as VP.

Of course, I'd have no problems with anybody Obama chooses as VP.

5. OK, I'll bite.
The reason she shouldn't be the VP choice is the same reason she shouldn't have been the choice for Presidential candidate: every person with even a hint of conservative in their make-up hates, loathes, despises and abominates her, and would sell a kidney if necessary to vote against her. There is simply no earthly way to win with her anywhere near the ticket.

Is that fair or reasonable? Of course not. But when have Republicans ever been those things? This should be obvious to anyone who has been paying the slightest attention for the past 15 years. Her running at all was inexcusable at this critical juncture, and can only be explained by willful blindness to the facts, and sheer ego. I will never forgive her for running, I will never forget the abominable campaign she ran, and I will never trust those "democrats" who supported her.

Is that clear enough?

9. Yes, it is clear and this is how the objections should be presented
not "the primaries are over."

7. She has none of the qualities Obama is looking for in a VP. He'll lose for sure with her...
He'd look weaker than Dukakis in the helmut.

13. Like Biden, she has more experience and knowledge of world affairs
whether through her days in the White House or in the Senate. And she will not be a "yes" woman - as Obama wants.

The wrong reason to select her would be to "placate" her supporters. Either she meets his requirements or she does not.

Penn. Wolfson. Carville. Begala.

I don't want any of those pigs anywhere NEAR the Oval Office.
