Wall Street Journal posted an alert that Obama had selected Kaine...
... and then retracted it, per Politico, via Bloomberg:

From Bloomberg:

WSJ retracts original statement and says Obama has not named running mate.

Two people with Bloomberg terminals saw an alert cross their paths that the Journal had reported the selection of Kaine, followed immediately by the retraction. I never saw the original report, and it's not clear what happened.

Rupert Murdoch had a bit of a bad day on this front four years ago (, so you might expect his outlets to be extra cautious.

Just as Ben Smith notes, Murdoch was the one behind this infamous gaffe:

1. LOL, I'd almost forgotten about
that piece of NYP idiocy. Doesn't surprise me that the WSJ, which The Nation rightly refers to as "America's foremost cheerfully fascist paper", would pull something like that.

2. Even more so, no that it's Murdoch's rag.
I wouldn't be surprised if Murdoch blows it, one more time. I'm sure he's dying to scoop and crush Obama's text/email plan.

5. It's possible
they have canned alerts ready to broadcast for each of the likely potential running mates. Then, one of them was released into the system accidentally. In the 5 years I worked at a newspaper, that happened with AP wire alerts a couple of times.

It probably means nothing, and they probably weren't pranked, it likely was just an accident.
