My take on Obama and why the media got the story first.
Once they choose the candidate the secret service has to be there. Even if it is not public knowledge. So with all the MSM parked outside it is kind of hard to hide the guys in dark suits and earpieces. So really it is the secret service who broke the news. Obama can not get around them and their rules of security.

4. Yeah, that is the way the world is now.
It sad that in this day and age as soon as it is possibility that you could be a target that you have to have 24 hour protection. But that is the way of the world.

3. Well they should have hired a mess of guys who look like Secret Service
guys and dispatched them to the other leading canidates homes.

I mean, I am so over Obama for this. How dare he not orchestrat this so I could be the first to hear about Biden.

It reminds me of the time I got the Little Orphan Annie decoder ring and the code just said eat more corn flakes...

Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 01:49 AM by tritsofme
Seeing as they spent so much time and media attention about the text message angle.

9. It was naive to believe it wouldn't get out
The media was all over this and they have the resources to find out what is happening (ie, SS) that is out of Obama's control. I am just happy to know and happy with the ticket. We have our convention next week and a big fight ahead of us.

25. I have read a lot of books on it...
But until we can travel to that time and see it with our own eyes, there will always be the speculation on what really happened. I believe that there is more to the story, hell one of the pictures taken on Air Force One when Johnson is sworn in, Lady Bird is smiling like the cheshire cat.

30. Your Unbased Comment on LadyBird Is Outrageous
Over the last several weeks I have seen several posts that allude to LBJ's involvement in the 1963 killing of JFK. It is interesting that back in the '60s only the right wing nuts brought this up. In fact this was something that the extreme right wing tried to use against LBJ in 1964.
Lady Bird is a beloved Democrat here in Texas. You have managed to insult all Texas Democrats with your outrageous and unfounded comment.

33. There was one picture that I saw in one of the books I read, that bothered me.
There are a lot of photos from that moment, and she looks very distraught, but the one I saw in the book (I don't remember the name) her smile was disturbing. I know she was a great lady and I respect her and her husband, but I stated what I felt when I saw that image.

22. How did I know your post would have a Kucinich avatar?
Obama has said many times how his Secret Service detail has become part of the family and he loves them like family.

Oh, by the way, UFO's killed Kennedy to usher in the New Age. You should know that!

28. Touchy. He's just a laughed at lightweight with some looney ideas on the hill
Granted, he's got some good ideas as well (nothing original), but the whole 'new age' persona, the Shirley McClain stuff, Vegan, -- he's known as an odd fellow. In a bizarre world where he's the nominee - we're talking 50 state blowout and Dennis the Menace goes back to his little district in Cleveland promoting, well, Dennis. Don't kill the messenger!

19. Agreed. At that point everyone knew it wasn't Bayh or Kaine.
The reporters were camped out 24/7 at Biden's house.

How was Biden suppose to get out of his house without people knowing? And that was even before the SS got there.

21. The story broke the moment it was announced that Obama had informed the people he hadn't picked....
... and then, a bit later, that he had actually informed the person he did pick.

As tekisui pointed out in an earlier thread, Obama knows, Those not picked know, And now the person who was picked knows.

Three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead.

It was only a matter of time. And that was around 4:17 pm today. Jake Tapper got the definitive scoop with the report of the Secret Service presence, but once Biden's staff started moving at a frenzied pace and zipping around the Hill in the middle of the damned night, everyone pretty much knew.
