On Beau Biden's succeeding his father. It can be done.
Beau Biden is an officer in the Delaware National Guard, not the U.S. Army Reserves.

The Commander in Chief of the Delaware National Guard is...Ruth Ann Minner, the Governor of Delaware.

When the time comes, all that has to happen is Governor Minner issues an order demobilizing Captain Biden and discontinuing his commission at the same time she appoints him to the United States Senate.

Even though his division has been nationalized, and is effectively under Bush's command, she is still in command of its composition and has the power to bring Beau Biden home to send him to Washington should she choose. And IF that happens, I doubt even Lamechimp would be stupid enough to fight her.

1. Isn't Minner retiring? Maybe she will take over for Biden

2. Really?! How excellent would that be? He'd avoid Iraq and
could become a senator? Without a vote, or would he have to run? Not much time for the latter.

5. The approach would be this:
Biden wins re-election as Senator on November 4, and is also elected Vice President at the same time.

111th Congress convenes January 3rd. Biden takes the oath of Office as a re-elected Senator, and tenders his resignation to the Governor and Vice President minutes later. There is a vacancy, and the Governor nominates his replacement.

When does Minner leave office? January 20? January 1? If she leaves before Biden is sworn in, and a Republican replaces her, it could be tricky.

3. I don't think they'd do that though.
I think that Beau would refuse. He'll do his Iraq tour.

4. Interesting. I had been wondering what effect this would
have on Biden's Senate seat. I believe he was running for re-election to the Senate this year. Aside from Beau Biden, does anyone know who other Democratic possibilities might me?

6. I hate dynasties on either side. I would not want that to happen.
It is an affront to Democracy.

7. He's the AG, hardly a dynasty
Biden Jr is Attorny General of Delaware. He would be a natural contender, even without his family connection.
