to be the uselessness of predictions.

16. I saw Obama in 2002
October of 2002, to be more precise, in Federal Plaza. First words out of his mouth were "I'm not against all wars, I'm just against dumb wars."

I turned to the guy standing next to me and asked, "who is this guy?"

"Barack Obama, he's a State Senator." came the answer.

"He should be president." were the only words I could think of at that point in time.

Found out a bit more than a year later he'd be running for Pete Fitzgerald's Senate seat. I was amazed he was a distant fourth place early in 2004. Supported him all the way. I knew he'd bring the house down during the 2004 convention as soon as I heard he got the keynote spot.

17. That's a great story! I didn't hear about him until 2004--Newsweek
did an article about him being a rising star in the party.

11. Why bother? Eight years ago, the 2008 Democratic nominee
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 10:42 AM by Occam Bandage
was an unimportant IL state senator who had just badly lost a Congressional primary for a safe Dem seat. Who knows who'll take it in '16?

12. And yet.......
I bet he will still have more marbles left than John McCain has now. He will remember how many houses he owns, he will be able to distinguish between Sunni and Shia, he will realize that Iraq does not share a border with Afghanistan, and that certain Nation no longer exist, have been renamed, etc........

18. Lisa Madigan?
She's the attorney general of Illinois -- she'll probably run for governor in 2010 and if she can defeat Blagojevich (the incumbent guv) in the primary, she'll be the next governor of Illinois.

So you'll have a fairly progressive, pro-choice Catholic woman who is only 50 years old and governor of a large midwestern state. She could be formidable.

Back-to-back Illinois presidencies?

22. SO WHAT....
I'm really getting tired of this " old age" thing. It's nothing more than discrimination. In the event you hadn't heard, 50 is the new 40, so you do the math. Age is a number, and as long as a person is "young at heart", and they have their wits about them, and in good health, age is irrelevant. People are living longer. BTW, age discrimination is illegal in this country, and, there is NO upper age limit in the presidency. Period.

Why not just ask who people want in 2016, and leave out the rest.....sheesh....
