Meet Jill Biden, the next Second Lady of the United States
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 01:23 PM by ruggerson

Jill Tracy Jacobs, married Joe in 1977, some six years after Joe suffered the tragic loss of his first wife and infant daughter. Joe met Jill when she was at the University of Delaware. She is currently an English Professor, teaching at Delaware Technical Community College.

Professionally, she has been a reading specialist, high school English teacher and a teacher at a mental health facility. Jill founded Biden Breast Health initiative which focuses on early breast cancer detection.

Joe had a serious health crisis in 1988 when he was hospitalized for two brain aneurysm’s that kept him from his Senate duties for seven months.

Jill and Joe have a daughter Ashley Blazer Biden who was born in 1981. She is a social worker. Their son Joseph Beau Biden is Delaware’s Attorney General and son Robert Hunter Biden is a lawyer. The couple also have 5 grandchildren: Naomi, Finnegan, Roberta Mabel, Natalie and Robert Hunter.

6. What a nice lady!
And it's refreshing to see a second wife who married a WIDOWER instead of being the paramour of a married man.

20. I have a "grandparent moratorium" on cradle-robbing charges
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 01:51 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Since they have like 5 grand-kids their relative ages don't concern me. (Same for McCain and Cindy... I'm consistent)

After I read your question I discovered that Jill's age is one of the hardest things to discover via Google I've ever seen, but who cares? Joe was fairly young in 1977 himself.

When they were married in 1977 she was a "student teacher" which means Grad student. So she may be roughly Obama's age. I don't know.

Anyway, I've noticed that widowers are more likely than anyone to re-marry someone a good bit younger because they are less poignantly reminiscent of the departed spouse. (Unlikely to share the same songs, fashions, patterns of speech... that kind of thing.)

21. I agreee with you, for the most part.
One thing I want to clear up though. Student teacher does NOT mean grad student.

College students going into teaching careers do their student teaching (iE internship) during the sencond semester of their junior year or first semester of their senior year.

A few leave it to the last semester of their senior year. They are not grad students.

I don't care about ages, but as someone who runs in "teacher circles" but not being a teacher myself, I find the teacher/student relationship kinda skeevey.

She seems like a nice woman, from her biography. I like Biden personally, but I have a big problem with a few of his major votes.

26. I stand corrected... I wasn't thinking in terms of her being a professional teacher
I read the phrase a student techer at the university because I wasn't thinking in terms of education degrees. My bad.
