"Obama ad on Palin avoids criticism, her name"
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 03:29 PM by goletian
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/30/campaign.wrap/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Since Sen. Barack Obama distanced himself from his campaign's first tough reaction to presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, his team seems to be figuring out the best way to direct its fire.

In the meantime, its ad approach is simple when it comes to the Alaska governor: keep aiming at Sen. John McCain.

Obama's campaign has begun airing its first ad that includes Palin, but it never criticizes her or even mentions her name.

The 30-second spot, which started airing Saturday on national cable in advance of next week's GOP convention, keeps up the line of attack ran through the Democratic convention: that a McCain presidency would mean the continuation of the Bush policy approach.

The Obama campaign would not say how extensive the ad buy was.

"Well, he's made his choice," the announcer says in "No Change." "But, for the rest of us, there's still no change. McCain doesn't get it, calling this broken economy 'strong.' Wants to keep spending $10 billion a month in Iraq. And votes with George Bush 90 percent of the time. Watch the ad

"So, while this may be his running mate ..." he continues over footage of McCain and a smiling Sarah Palin, which shifts to footage of McCain and Bush. "America knows this is John McCain's agenda. And we can't afford four more years of the same."

16. Exactly. She is unimportant. The issues still stand.
This is what his campaign will continue to do and let the surrogates and media handle the secondary issues. I expect he'll leave the Gustav thing alone in ads for now, although I expect McLame to use it immediately (the repukes are on the defensive about this whole situation). But the minute any McLame Gustav ads use their photo-ops to attack Obama rather than highlight their "compassionate conservatism", they will leave themselves open for being dismissed as "playing politics as usual" and exploiting a tragedy for political gain.

17. That's the best way to react!
The pick hasn't change the fact that McCain is more of the same.

22. Perfect note
Ignore her - any publicity is good publicity. What will kill McW is a lack of attention to what he must think was a master stroke.
