See, I think this will work against us, not for us.

For those of you laughing and giggling because Gustav has interrupted the RNC, I hate to burst your bubble, but I think this will be a problem. Logically, it's good news. But you're looking at it from your point of view, not from the point of view of Average Joe/Joanna Americana, who's statistically likely to be a low-information voter who makes choices based solely upon emotion, not logic; who doesn't take into account issues and fact; who doesn't even vote based upon his/her best interest.

No, low-infomration voter looks at McCain's "tearing up" the script for the RNC and says, "oh, he's concerned for folks like me - he's nothing like Bush who ignored Katrina." McCain has said: "This is a time when we have to do away with our party politics and we have to act as Americans." Freaking brilliant spin.

Campaign manager Davis told reporters inside the convention hall that the opening program on Monday would be “business only and will refrain from political rhetoric.” To help those in need, he said, “We are working with the delegations, financial people, finance committees, many other concerned individuals to do what we can to raise money for various charities that operate in the Gulf Coast region.”

More spin.

And now those watching the RNC won't even connect McCain/Palin to Bush and Cheney because they won't be at the RNC - they'll be off "to meet with emergency workers and evacuees as Hurricane Gustav bears down on the Gulf Coast."

They're spinning more and faster than Gustav. And low-information voter is soaking it all in.

For the naysayers - of course we're not doomed, so don't even say it.
But, we do have to see the situation for what it is - that's the best way we can fight against it and win.

1. Unfortunately, my Az colleague, this is true!!! I have 2 Democratic
women friends who have already told me they will not vote for Obama. One is very religious, the other a Southerner not so religious!

I'm very concerned about the outcome of the election. Now this woman comes on the scene.

5. How's Yuma? Getting any rain?
We've had a lot here in the last week - rained almost every night, one night with 75 mph winds.
After that, I can't imagine going through a hurricane.

12. We've had a couple of nites of rain and a storm is building -
The humidity is the killer - sixty percent plus. I'll take 118 with 10 percent humidity over what we have now. I don't remember it being this bad over the years even in Phoenix and Tucson. Where is it coming from??? From the Global Warming icy California Current?

13. I don't know - but you're right, the humidity is the worst.
For a land-locked desert state, we shouldn't have this problem.
It's actually nice here today - only 91 and the humidity's only 35%. But we're expecting more storms tonight, so that will change.

2. Most people will be focused on the hurricane coverage and
will probably be thankful that the Rep convention is downscaled.

It also reminds people of the disaster of Katerina and no amount of spin now change what people have been thinking about that disaster for the last 3 years.

6. Excellent point. Time to remind them of Katrina.
I don't mean that in a callous way - I don't want to use anyone's misery for gain. But, the facts surrounding Katrina exist and must be remembered or they will be repeated.

3. And you think time and a CONvention is going to change any of that?
 And the last one he was eating cake. So he's sure must have changed at his age egh. Fuck'n A. He's a staging area for disaster.
