This works to keep bush/cheney off the stage and stops those awkward comparisons between a hugely energized bunch of diverse Democrats and an underwhelmed bunch of old fat white guys. It lets gramps crawl on a pile of rubble with bullhorn and it even hides Sarah Barracuda from some hard scrutiny for awhile - But... it also removes a big opportunity to sell the republican idea of America. I wonder how this will play.

9. What will they do if there's a category one hurricane

That causes some property damage, injures 9 people but kills none. Everybody will want to know if McCain is will go there, since he brought the idea up. If McCain goes to a hurricane zone that isn't anything like as bad as Katrina was he'll look silly. If McCain doesn't go, he's open to people saying that he doesn't care about the category one damage because its not enough of a photo op. They'll ask McCain to tell the victims they aren't worthy.

I'm eager to see how all this turns out. The McCain camp is holding off for now.
