Some talking points re: Palin
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 05:32 PM by mw
- Sarah Palin does not represent change in Washington. She and her discredited conservative views merely represent a new generation of more of the same.

- John McCain doubled down on more of the same with his pick of Sarah Palin. With his pick, McCain exhibits traits of the worst and most disasterous qualities of the last 8 years--a man who fills important posts where ideological agreement trumps experience and qualifications. We can't afford 4 more years like the last 8.

- McCain's pick of Sarah Palin might help McCain win the election, but Palin's ability to be President "from day one" in the event she's required to is in serious doubt. America can't risk Sarah Palin and her complete absence of foreign policy and national security experience. John McCain's "Palin Pander" demonstrates without a doubt that Mr. McCain is willing to put winning elections ahead of our national security.

-

3. Palin IS part of the good ol' boy
network, she's just not a boy. To say she fought corruption in Alaskan Republican politics and the oilfield corporations is doing nothing more then acknowledging the republican elephant in the room.

4. You shouldn't hate Sarah Palin - you should pity her.
McCain & the GOP machine have exposed her to the scrutiny & ridicule of the national media without vetting her & without the proper preparation. She's going to be eaten alive by the wolves & have what may have been a promising political carrier destroyed prematurely.

5. I cannot pity her. It shows a lack of judgment on her part also.
When I first graduated from college, there were too many teachers and jobs were very hard to get. I had been substituting for two years, when one day during the summer I got a call from one of the districts I had applied to. They offered me a job, but I turned it down. Why...because although the I was certified by the state to teach in the subject area, I did not feel I was qualified/knowledgeable enough to teach that subject. I explained to them that it wouldn't be fair to the kids. I would be learning along with them, and I didn't feel that was right.

Later, I was assigned to a long-term substitute position for a seriously ill teacher, and an opening occurred in the building. I was offered that position, and turned it down. Why...because I knew if I accepted the position, the kids I was working with would have another teacher to get used to, and the possibility of other fill-ins during the course of the year, until the regular teacher recovered or as actually happened, passed away. When she passed, the district offered me the contract, and I very happily accepted, but that put someone ahead of me on the seniority list. That one person came back to "haunt" me for three consecutive years, as I was laid off, and she wasn't.

I have never regretted my decisions, because I knew I was doing the right thing for the kids. They were the reason I went into teaching, and to this day, it is their best interest that comes first.

So, no, I don't feel pity for Mrs. Palin. She is putting her personal interests and political aspirations ahead of the needs of this country. She should have graciously refused.

6. And I'm supposed to feel sorry for her because of that?
She could have said no.

7. There is a lively discussion with several more talking points over at DK
The number two talking point seems to be Abuse of Power, both as governor and previously as a small-town mayor. Political firings in both cases.

Palin is currently under state investigation for alleged abuse of power, attempting to intimidate the Alaskan State Police Director who would not re-open a closed case to fire her ex-brother-inlaw.
That stuff is here, complete with recorded phone calls and a CBS News Report.

Meanwhile another discussion here
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/31/15012/7644/827/580907
has pages and pages of actual depositions, court transcripts, and more.

Just like John McCain, Sarah Palin has neither the temperament nor the judgment to hold any national office.

The number one talking point is John McCain's total lack of judgment in naming Sarah Palin to anything.

9. Also:
If, during the VP debates, Sarah tries to make any comparison AT ALL between herself and Hillary, Joe Biden MUST pull out:

"I know Senator Clinton. Senator Clinton is a friend of mine. And Sarah, you're no Hillary Clinton."
