Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 06:02 AM by CreekDog
They only released this info, which they preferred to keep under wraps (probably because of their "base") and it was only when the rumors were distracting from their message and even gaining a little traction that they wanted to change the subject --but they couldn't. Nevermind that most didn't believe the conspiracy theories, they did believe how Sarah gave a speech and got on a plane after her water broke (totally true and undenied) and that seems irresponsible.

When your best defense to a conspiracy theory is to annouce that your daughter is pregnant, then you are a candidate with a problem.

So some folks here (many/most in fact did not believe), yes, you take the kool-aid regarding conspiracy theories a little too fast. However the viral nature of the rumors, we at DU could not stop, they were going to occur anyway.

Now I don't want to be behind this crap, but how hard will I fight it? Not one damned bit because they've been smearing Obama as "unAmerican" and "Muslim" etc. etc. and the McCain team didn't get upset about that, never threatened to fire anyone over that like our guy did, didn't tell the press to cut it out like our guy did.

So screw the McCain campaign. They aren't going to use our campaign's decency to defend on one side, while they gleefully benefit from rumors that help them.

1. Revealing the pregnancy of someone who is five months along is
not a "counter." It's annoucing news that will become apparent very soon.

3. The MSM news stories I read called it a "counter."
They were hiding the pregnancy (behind the other baby) until the day before the announcement. Clearly they wanted to wait on it.

4. That's just the spin

But to buttress what you said above, according to Reuters, via the Sydney Morning Herald, the McSame campaign indeed stated:

McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" that have circulated on liberal blog sites.

According to these rumours, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in April to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down Syndrome. The rumour was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother...

They went further:

"There's no doubt that liberal blogs such as one called www.barackoblogger.com and some in the mainstream media were pushing a false story about Governor Palin's most recent pregnancy with fervour," said senior McCain adviser Nicolle Wallace.

A senior McCain official said its camp had no evidence that the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama was pushing the story, but the blog rumors circulating on websites that appeared to support Obama had the effect of being "a real anchor around the Democratic ticket".

So, see? They were helping us by telling us a truth was going to come out anyway.

Aren't you ashamed you ever doubted those wonderful elephant people? Why do you hate America? :sarcasm:

5. I love how helpful they are . . .
Pointing out the "anchor" around Obama's neck (no subtext there, not a bit). So we can correct it of course.

6. Well, you know what they say
Don't point to the anchor around your opponent's neck when you've got an albatross around your own.

8. You do realize the rumors didn't come from DU?
Rumors were circulating in Alaska for months. From the Alaska Daily news:

There is no shortage of willing players at DU and that is a major embarrassment!
You disagree?

14. I'd like to think we're better
than that, but in reality we're like any other community where new rumors spread like wildfire. Some people search for confirmation and post what they find and others speculate or post opinion. We can't control what other people want to talk about. If the admins. felt it was over the top I'm sure they'd handle it.

It's the nature of this type of message board where anyone can begin a topic and other posters can begin new threads about the same topic.

19. I'd like to think that we're better than that too.
Hate mongers deny me that comfort.
Trig and Bristol are living, breathing children that are cared for by their parents, grandparents or whatever and only the very lowest of society's common denominators would endeavor to make that ugly! I'll go so far as to wager that Obama is even less enamored of the hate mongers than I am.
