Graham raises Biden's family

From an interview we did with Lindsey Graham just now:

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a top surrogate for John McCain, Tuesday accused critics of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin of sexism for suggesting she could not handle her multiple roles as mother, soon-to-be grandmother, McCain's running mate and, potentially, vice president.

“Would a man be asked this question? Probably not,” the South Carolina Republican said in an interview with Politico.

“Did anybody ask Joe Biden when his tragedy hit him?”

Biden’s first wife, Neilia, and infant daughter died in a car accident shortly after he was elected to the Senate in 1972. Graham said he could not recall a “groundswell” of calls for Biden to resign to care for his two surviving children after the accident.

Graham also said that Republicans had dodged a bullet when Clinton wasn't nominated.

And he had a funny line on Biden and Palin: "You’ve got to remember she got more votes for mayor of that town than Joe got for president," he said.

Some people have been saying it's not right for a woman to take so much time away from caring for her children by taking on the busy job of vice president or even governor.

But the situations are vastly different--Biden didn't have a spouse to take care of his two sons and he had to work. Palin does have a husband who presumably can shoulder most of the child care.

But not the same thing as a tragedy. Lindsay Graham, who suffered a bad family tragedy himself, should know better. (His parents died right after he joined the army and he had to raise his little sister all by himself--and by all accounts did a fine job).

A teenager getting pregnant is sad and a diversion in her life's course, but it's not even close to being the same thing as losing two loved ones too early.

Family deaths just are not a place to be making a political statement. People are questioning Sarah Palin's judgment because her daughter ended up pregnant and Palin seems to be more interested in her job as governor then as a mother, plus she promoted abstinence and it did not work for her daughter. Sarah's husband who works for an oil company and fishes in the summer seems equally to blame. There is two of them and their daughter STILL ended up pregnant and on top of that there is a special needs baby, will the nanny watch him too? The father seems out to lunch. Nice future vice presidential family there...they wish. No role models at all. Joe, on the other hand had no option of whether to work or not, he was their mother and father. He did have help from family and friends and his sister did move in with him. As we have all seen Hunter and Beau ended up growing up quite well. This just disgusts me to use someone's tragedy to benefit politically. And this is after Biden said children in politics are off limits.
