Really? Then why didn't we elect Ross Perot?
Wouldn't it be great if the media actually examined that claim - that executive experience is all that matters? Is it just the budget or the number of people you supervise? So all small town and big town mayors, and all executives at successful businesses are fully qualified to be President? How 'bout basketball team coaches?
Here's a thought - perhaps there are things other than executive experience that we, the American people also value.
- Is it important to have a well thought-out world view of how the US should interact with the rest of the world, including third world countries, industrialized countries, potentially threatening states, etc?
- Is it important to understand the dynamics of each of the key issues driving the US economy?
- Is it important to understand the dynamics of specific maladies like the current health care crisis in order to create viable solutions?
- Is it important to understand the Constitution of the United states, and how and why the original framers decided as they did on the Bill of Rights, the balance of power between the executive, judicial and legislative branches?
- Is it important to understand the basis for civil liberties?
- Is it important to understand how to construct good policy, including how to bring in different, opposing viewpoints to engage in compromise?
- Is it important to show the ability to galvanize support for critical issues facing the country?
On all of these points, if you find them important, Sarah Palin has virtually NO experience while Barak Obama flat out excels on virtually every one.
So yeah, lets ask what's important for experience in becoming President of the United States. Personally, I love the fact that Barak Obama taught constitutional law. I actually value this experience MORE than Sarah Palin's sports broadcasting career, or even her salmon fishing or Moose hunting.
So come on MSM...do your fucking job. Examine the issue. Do you honestly think that executive experience is all that we should care about?
