Even Andrea Mitchell thought that Palin was awful

1. No, that's not what she said.
She said maybe prime time isn't ready for the nuts and bolts of foreign policy. She said Palin was obviously uncomfortable but she might get a pass from average people because they are just not that interested in foreign policy themselves.

15. Then Andrea is just as dumb as Palin.
Not being interested in foreign policy doesn't translate to "I don't care if the president knows anything about foreign policy."

20. STOP
looking at this from a dem perspective

look at it from rethugs' viewpoint

in order to win, that's necessary.....

it's how palin comes across to them and their reactions that we have to take into account, in order to beat them

it's not what WE think, but what THEY think

22. Well, not really. It's what the independents and undecideds think.
RWers will view her interview favorably, happy that she weathered the interview without completely locking-up, and will think Gibson was rude. (Expect threats of ABC boycotts.)

The problem is that anyone who remains undecided, at this point, isn't necessarily operating at full capacity, and so aren't likely to recognize Palin's failures in the interview. They may also judge the interview simply from her mannerisms and conduct, rather than content.

Exactly. Which is how they could still be undecided, at this point.

It's not like there aren't stark differences between the parties and their respective candidates.

2. But then she said that there might be a backlash because women
might see Gibson as being condescending and rude. Someone needs to pull up Gibson questioning Obama during that debate and show them side by side. Gibson is just a condescending ass by nature. They've got to stop with the sexism crap. As if Putin is going to change his attitude because she's a woman.

3. The McSame campaign is stuck
They essentially put all of their eggs in one basket regarding this one interview. ABC is making such a HUGE deal of it. IF Palin looks bad they can try to blame Gibson but I think that will be very tough to do. He really wasn't hard at all on her and didn't over the top. Plus he knew the camp could pull tomorrow's interview if he misbehaved.

6. I kind of hope they do start another
fracas about Gibson being too mean to wittle Sarah
I think the whole pig lipstick thing blew up in their face

how much whining can one campaign do?

Mccain whines he's not getting enough attention
he whines that people actually *like* Obama
the repubs whine the media is mean
the repubs whine over palin actually having to answer ANY questions

who do the repubs think palin is? Cheney?

12. the only women
that I can see thinking that, are women who're both equally clueless about foreign policy and already big fans.

I can't imagine anyone even remotely objective and/or informed not being horrified. No matter what the shape of their genitalia might be.

14. This is why Palin was such a bad choice...
She is so fucking idiotic that a male interviewer might come off as condescending and rude.

Women need to be interviewing her to shut up the accusations of sexism. Then again her handlers might not like it because they want the accusations to garner votes.

19. Or maybe the O'Reilly interview of Obama.
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 12:58 AM by krkaufman
Palin was treated with kid gloves in that interview, and Gibson only looked tough on her because she was unable to answer the most basic of questions without going off on pre-planned tangents. ("let me talk about the credential I do bring to the ticket...", to which Gibson could have responded that she's not running for Secretary of Energy)

7. that was funny
"not ready for prime time". I got pissed when she said that Charles might be seen as "condescending" to women or some bullshit after that interview. They are really milking the "backlash from women" narrative, trying to make something happen with it.

11. Why are women from all walks of life, not shooting this down?
I'm not pleased with the squeamishness over attacking the target where it is weak but this allows sexism to just become a joke.

Women face real issues and many women sit on their hands while the GOP makes a mockery of their persecution. Ride the Trojan Moose all the way to 1800, that's brilliant.

If any network is too harsh in their criticism of Palin's performance, they'll be punished.
