Truce Over, Obama Comes Out Swinging. Biden Unleashed.
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/truce-over-obama-comes-out-swinging-2008-09-12.html

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who has slipped in the polls since Republican rival John McCain tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, signaled early Friday that his campaign is taking the gloves off with 54 days to go.

In a memo from Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, the Illinois Democrat's campaign announced the launch of two new ads, unleashed running mate Joe Biden and served warning to the media to call the game straight.

"(McCain's) campaign has become nothing but a series of smears, lies and cynical attempts to distract from the issues that matter to the American people," Plouffe wrote.

The harshly worded memo comes just one day after the campaigns called a truce to honor the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

That truce, however, was proceeded by days of intense and negative fighting as Palin energized the McCain campaign and provided it with a continued base of indignation for what the campaign saw as sexist and unfair treatment both from the Obama campaign and the media.

In "the first day of the rest of the campaign," the Obama campaign made it clear that it plans to fight McCain tooth and nail with Plouffe promising to "respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain's attacks."

"And we will take the fight to him," Plouffe said.

The memo noted that part of the new hit-back strategy will include Biden, with Plouffe calling the Delaware senator an "integral" part of the campaign's new offensive.

2. Great Idea BUT
Plouffe needs to use those 3 phrases The Rude Pundit came up with:

"Am I running against John McCain or Sarah Palin?"

"If the Republicans wanted her to be president, they should have nominated her"

"Maybe Republicans are used to a vice president that runs the show"

ALSO it is time to start swiftboating McCain. He spent 20 days in the military. 20!!! And he crashed 5 planes, the 5th being the dumbass move which got him captured. The gloves are off! NOTHING should be beyond the 527's! 527's unleashed now!!!

6. Correction: 20 Hours...
He only spent 20 hours in the military...he was a collaborator with the Viet Cong and served to deispirit our troops and populus - he's a disgrace to the uniform.

the second clause comes from the RWers, not the LWers...I heard that for YEARS!

17. He spent only 20 hours flying combat
before he was captured.

Prior to that, he was in the military for a few years, but not in combat. Nonetheless he managed to lose three planes during that time (plus a fourth in an accident that clearly was not his fault).

18. Yeah I meant 20 hours
what ever it is, it is no John Kerry war record. Compare the 2 war records and you must agree that if they can swiftboat a TRUE hero like Kerry we can swiftboat McCain.

7. If their new "change" TV ad is any indication of their "fight," they are in trouble.
It's weak, to put it nicely.

10. Watch the "lobbyist" ad when its up.
He is hitting from every angle. Some nice ones for issues voters. Some harder hitting ones for ignorant voters.

13. That's a good one but the "JOHN MCCAIN DOESNT KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER" is really bad
The ads that resonate the most with voters are the ones that people can immediately remember. This one isn't memorable and lacks the "bite" that people will latch onto in a positive way.

Beyond that, I think it could backfire. A lot of people can't use a computer or send an e-mail - at least without some degree of difficulty. My dad is a chemical engineer and he still hunts and pecks on a keyboard and calls me for help on the simplest thing. People might see this as an "elitist" approach by insulting McCain's lack of expertise with using the computer or email. I would have left this out.

I like the contrast 1982 v. 2008, but this doesn't seem like the best way to do it.

14. Yeah. 1982 did little for me, but it probably won't get much
play if the response isn't great. As long as they flood the market, and put the hard hitting, memorable ones out.

12. The McCain ad today was intense
Obama and Biden dismiss Palin as just Good looking, Obama calls her names. Obama is just DISrespectful. It would make a low info voter just hate this Obama guy. I'm trying to think who in the world would be influenced to change their vote to Obama after seeing his "real change" ad ("I'll lower the marginal taxrate on those with income between 35,000 and 78,000 from 16.2 percent to 15.8 percent. That's the kind of change I'm talking about."

21. They need to keep saying over and over
Oh McCain is just trying to use distraction because he doesn't have a leg to stand on. I will not comment on his newest distraction but if he wants to get together and talk about the economy I have no problem with doing that.

26. So far, I'm not impressed with Obama's "fighting" skills.
He would be far better off firing his Rapid Response team, and just replaying clips from Jon Stewart's show.

Last night (replay) was KILLER, showing actual video clips of contradictions, LIES, and flip/flops. THAT is the stuff that will stick in the low information voter's minds, NOT scholarly debate and calm, logical, well prepared, refutations and nuanced explanations.

Obama DOES need to be careful not to appear "uppity" or "angry".
He has surrogates who can do that.

30. He needs to do the big rallies.
His team was intimidated by the "Celebrity" flak. Now McSame can't use that tactic.
