WASILLA, Alaska - The McCain campaign is defending Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's much-criticized inquiry into banning books at her hometown library, saying her questions were only hypothetical.

"What do think would happen if we rounded up all the Jews and sent them to concentration camps?"

"If we would move you from your homeland and place you in a larger territory, and your people would all still be together, that wouldn't be a bad thing, would it?"

"Taking regulatory controls off of investment markets wouldn't have any possible negative results, would it?"

"Electing someone with absolutely no knowledge of the complicated domestic and foreign affairs this government must conduct could not have a negative result, could it?"
