Question for DU hunters: What do your hunting friends think of aerial hunting?
I'm not in with the hunting crowd, though I respect people's right to do it. Don't you all think that hunters would find aerial hunting to be unsportsmanlike and cowardly? Help me out here.

2. I'm vegetarian, but I'm close to a lot of hunters, so from what I've seen...
they judge aerial hunting by what it's intended to do. Most of them couldn't afford to rent a plane to fly over animals shooting at them, so they don't see it as sport hunting, but at the same time, they are going to see the animals as objects, and have no sympathy for them. They may be turned off by hunters who are unnecessarily cruel or wasteful, but not really out of sympathy for the animals.

About the Palin commercial specifically, most are going to be turned off by the snooty voice and condescending nature of the commercial moreso than by Palin's aerial hunting policies. The impression that commercial gives is that they are hunting the wolves because the wolves are a danger (that's the point of the bounty for the front leg), and the hunters I know won't have a problem with that. In fact, the commercial will make them scornful of "liberal PETA" attitudes, and make them less likely to support Obama. Not that most of these folk are going to vote Obama. Some, though, are considering not voting for McCain.

It's a cheerleading ad. It makes the people already on its side very happy, but it doesn't win us the support of anyone not already on our side. And it may offend some on the fence. I hope it's not actually running on television.

4. I don't hunt however I do go to a shooting range. They prefer the piece of paper better.
But then I live in New York so most of the guys at my rifle range aren't hunters but cops. Shit like that doesn't fly with them and they hate it, added to that they don't get it when there's a supermarket on the corner. They're practical and so am I. I don't touch animals, like people they're off limits.

5. I'll try. The wolves are considered predator, like rats or coyotes

They are being removed.

I'm not arguing that point I'm saying that's what SOME hunters or cattle ranchers might say.

6. The hunters in my family would say, if you can't
eat them, there's no object in hunting them.
