We might be in trouble...

I am an idiot. I just learned that Rahm Emanuel is one of the Democrats negotiating the debates. He is a big DLC stooge. I have a very bad feeling that parts of this debate are going to cater to the 'economic center' and allow for a lot of conservative values questions.

If the questions are all corporate friendly and squishy these debates are going to be a friggin fiasco.

From ABC news

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/mccain-not-comm.html

"Obama supporter and chief debate negotiator Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., told MSNBC that "we can handle both," when asked about his reaction to McCain's call to postpone the first debate because of the administration's bailout plan. "

2. Yeah...
He is of the David From-anti-populist right wing of the democratic party. The part that claims to be all about strategy but that keeps losing us elections.

Fortunately they seem to be on their way out the door. We just have to ensure our elected officials understand just how crummy these guys are.

10. We Need To
Strongly advocate against the right wing DLC types AFTER our man wins the election. Then is the time for our side to assert ourselves and our superior ideas over Emmanual, Clinton, et al. I suspect that the sympathies of our next President are more in tune with those of us in the Progressive wing of the party than with the tired, played out, old rhetoric and warmed over failed ideology foisted off on the public as a "moderate" political stance by the DLC types. These timid old politicos have had their day in the sun now it is time for them to move aside because we shall have ours whether they like it or not. Ready or not...here we come!

13. The "debates" always favor the Republicans' stupid answers.
First, they aren't real debates. They're simplistic questions designed to elicit simplistic responses, at which Republicans excel. Democrats, who offer intelligent, informed, thoughtful candidates, always look like they can't give a straight answer. The questions are always designed to make corporations look good. They're aimed at the lowest common denominator. Democrats never come off looking good after these stupid events because they're rigged against us.

Example of a typical "debate" question and response:

Moderator: Now, Senator McCain, tell us your thoughts about God. Is God very important to you in your life?

McCain: Yes. God is very important to me. And to Cindy. God is very important to both of us.
(The crowd goes wild)

Moderator: Now, Mr., er, Senator, Obama. (Clears throat.) What caused the extinction of the dinosaurs, and doesn't it prove that global warming has nothing to do with human beings, but is simply part of a natural fluctuation of the earth's temperatures? Hmmm? (The crowd applauds the question and leans forward in anticipation of Obama's response.)

Obama: Er, I'm not sure exactly what caused the dinosaurs' extinction, scientists have differences of opinion about that....but in any case, that has nothing to do with....its essential that we put together a sensible response to global warming, which is a very real phenomenon....(crowd boos and shifts in their seats)

Moderator: I see. Senator Obama is saying that we need to spend a great deal of money on unproven technologies to attempt to halt global warming even though it's probably not caused by human actions anyway...

Obama: Excuse me, that's not what I said...

Moderator: Next question! Senator McCain, how do you feel about sanctity of life? Are you in favor of protecting the lives of babies?

McCain: Yes! I love babies! (The crowd goes wild)
